My almost 5 year old has been potty trained for years. She never had accidents awake or asleep. For the last three days she has wet her pants. She doesn't complain about pain or trouble, so I doubt it's a bladder or kidney infection. It just seems that she is so busy playing that she doesn't want to take the time to go. Three days in a row is crazy! What can I do??

So What Happened?

My daughter had her accidents three days in a row. On day three I sat her down, told her how much I loved her, and that if she continued to have accidents we would go see the doctor. I basically said, in four year old terms, that if this is something you can control, find a way to stop it. Stop playing in time to go potty. After telling her that we would have to see the doctor if it continued, it stopped as quickly as it began. So, problem solved for now! I guess it truly was a too busy playing scenario because she's been able to control it and go potty as usual.

Has anything changed in her day to day life? My little sister was 4 and my parents went away for a week to see my older sister graduate, my grandmother watche us and she acted fine but she started weting the bed and she is 14 now and still wets the bed. My parents have tried everything and they dont know whats wrong.
Have you tried talking to her about it? is she sad/ embarassed when she has an accident? If she continues you may want to take her to or call the Dr. about it, they have any ways to fix the problem. Let me know how it turns out any bit of info would really help my poor teenage sis.

Here is a website that might be helpful to you:

If your daughter continues to have daytime incontinence then it would be a good idea to take her to the pediatrician just to rule out a urinary tract infection. Sometimes an infection can be present without painful symptoms.

Has something changed in your home recently? Has your husband gone out of town on business or has there been another child there for an extended period of time? A lot of time when a child is feeling insecure for some reason you might see some regression in one area or another of their training. Or it could be as you say that she is just having so much fun that she doesn't pay attention to the signals until it is too late. I would personally try talking to her about how "big girls" use the potty so they stay clean and dry. Don't criticize or ridicule her...just mention it casually as you are cleaning her up. Above all...let her feel secure and loved so that this doesnt become a continuing problem.
Good luck!!!

Hi. My name is L.. My son went through the same thing a couple of different times. I took him to the doctor and she said it was because he had just gone through a growth spurt and so he was drinking more, but his bladder had not grown at the same time. Therefore, his bladder couldn't hold the new intake! After about 2 weeks or so, she said the bladder would grow and everything would be fine. She was right. It was less than two weeks and then all was fine. We went through it two different times, so don't get discouraged if it happens again! Good luck!
