Why Haven't I Gotten My Period?

Sorry I didn't read this sooner. I could have told you it happens. I have been on the shot for almost two years and haven't had a period since..Yeah!...lol. I still get the cramps and mood swings...but at least I can wear white 30 days in a row if I want...~giggles.

Unfortunately I had that same problem. I also decided on the BC Shot & did not get my period for the first 3 shots, by the time I was ready for the 4th one I started to bleed heavily for over 60 days until my GYN found a pill(Yasmin)that finally stopped the bleeding. I am not saying this will happen to you but it is a possibility. It was sheer hell! Hope this was helpful to you and I suggest you contact your GYN to discuss it with her/him.

It's definately to early to completely freak about not having your period yet, especially since you breastfed. Your body is just starting to get rid of you pregnant hormones. It is VERY easy to become pregnant immediately after having a child, so it may help to take a test. If nothing else the test will atleast let your nerves relax enough to allow for your period to come. But it will take months for your body to become used to not being pregnant, and until than nothing will really happen regularly. Some women have said that it took them up to a year after childbirth before their cycles were back to normal. Take a test, but don't worry to much. Enjoy not having it, you have enough to worry about right now.

by "shot", i'm assuming you mean depo provera. not everyone who uses this method of birth control gets a period. even if you were on depo before you got pregnant, your body may not react the same way as it did before. your body changes with each and every pregnancy.

that being said, for peace of mind you can always call your gyn and have your hormones checked and be screened for pregnancy. a friend of mine got pregnant on depo.

i am so glad that i am not the only one. I had my son oct 05 and got the shot, had side effects and did not renew and it took over a year and a half to get my period again, I just got it in March of 06 and it is still way off key...:)

fyi: It is a normal response to not get your period while on the shot, it is pretty rare that someone does. Have you read up on the pros and cons of the birth control your using? good luck and enjoy the no period, I had mine a week after I stopped breastfeeding and it was sooo heavy and long, it sucked!!

i would check with your OB/GYN, but i thought you usually don't get your period when you're on depo/the shot?

i took depo provera before and after my first son and it is very common n ot to get your period when your on it, i also breastfed i would say it's probably a combination of both, consider your self lucky because spotting can become quite bothersome. if you still feel concerned i would mention it to your obgyn in january when you back for your next shot

When you get the shot, some women don't get their periods at all while that stuff is in their systems. One of my best friends got it 3 times, and during the entire time she had it she never once got her period. Some women spot, but what you're experiencing is pretty normal.

Well first of all, how long did you have your period for after he was born. I had mine for 1 month after the delivery of my son. Second, your body is still trying to get back on track. I breastfed my son exclusively for 2 mos until I went back to work. Then I only breastfed when I was with him and pumped once a day at lunch until he was 6 mos old. I didn't get my first period until he was 6 mos old. You have to remember, you still have alot of those hormones in your body that are stopping your body from coming.
