Whooping Cough - New Baden,IL

I have had wooping cough and it has a very distict cough sound. With each cough comes a huge gasp for air, as if you can't breath. Also, vomitting after or during coughing spells is quite normal. It doesn't sound like your daughter has it, especially if she has been vaccinated for pertusis (wooping cough). Definitely take her in asap if you are concerned because if it is wooping cough you have to have antibiotics within the first 2 weeks or they won't help and it has to run its course. Which for me was 8 of the most miserable months of my life. I highly recommend adults get the pertusis vaccine, now included in tetinus shots if you ask, because childhood vaccines aren't for life when it comes to pertusis!

I'm not saying your child has whooping cough--but children who are immunized against Whooping cough (pertussis) can still get pertussis. They can exhibit much less severe symptoms than children who haven't been vaccinated but can still spread the pertussis bacteria around to alot of people for weeks if not treated with appropriate antibiotic. I'd take my child to the doctor if I had a question about it. I hope she's feeling better very soon!

I would take her in to the doctor. Most likely it's not whooping cough since she's been immunized and it doesn't sound like it (it's a very distinctive cough), but it could be something else that she needs antibiotics for or some other medicine.

Just take her to the Doctor.

I would take her in and have them listen to her lungs. It's better to know that all is well and if she needs meds, they can decide then. Peace of mind is worth a lot.

It's the season for RSV as well. I'd have them check her for that too. She could be coughing to clear lung secretions. I put off taking my son to the doctor when he had a cough and he ended up in the PICU with RSV. It's always better to check it out. Good luck at the doctor today!
