When to Take Baby to Dentist

I let mine go at the age of 2. All they do is look at the condition of the teeth and count them. If the child lets them , they will brush them and polish them. I'm glad I started at two. It made them more comfortable.

Find a good pedi dentist and follow their advice. Also, I have often felt "every 6 months, are you sure that's necessary???" until my son's dentist caught the onset of GERD, due to tooth erosion. Believer now. My son's first dentist appointment was to have 2 teeth pulled. He WANTED to go the next time my daughter went. He loves going to the dentist. Answer to your specific question: when? whenever. Just do it! :-)

I am a dental hygienist and text books will tell you by the age of 1 they should see a dentist or when they get their first tooth. But...in the real world sometime between the ages of 2 and 3 is good. It kind of depends on the temperment of the child. There is no way my 2 yr old would sit still in the dental chair but I have seen some do it. Obviously, if you have any concerns you would need to take him right away. Good luck.

My Denist would not see children until they were 4-5 years of age. Unless there is a cause for concern, I would wait and just gently bush his two teeth.

My pediatric dentist recommends a visit about the age of 1. My now 13 yr old daughter went with me to cleanings when she was very young and my dentist wold "check" her like mommy, etc so that she would not be intimadated by the tools.

At age 2 or so, we started going to Dr. Tipton Asher in Plano. He is fantastic, has a great staff and very well respected in the medical community.

My daughters' pedi recommended at least one dental visit before their 4-year pedi checkup and then every 6 mos. after that. I have 3 daughters and that seems to be the right age for going to the dentist without too much anxiety or drama. They love the dentist too!!

It is recommended by the state of Texas to start at age 3.

However, my son at 6 months had chipped teeth so we made an appointment. It was later found that he was grinding in his sleep. (This is a side effect of autism that was releaved by pushing the jaw together and releasing periodically during the day and allowing him to "chew" on rubber toys and oral muscle devices like a "puppy". He still uses them at almost 8yoa. [sigh])

Doctors Moore and Tinkler of Amarillo Pediactric Dentistry recommend seeing your child 6-12 months after the first tooth erupts.Evaluations this early on can truly save your children alot of discomfort from any pain that could be detected at an early age. An actual cleaning may not be done this young but, a good eye and education will help to prevent any further problems if seen by the dentist before hand.Plus, they are very patient, kind and VERY kid friendly, attitudes like this are helpful in getting the kids to come back and not be afriad of the "Dentist Office".Good luck! Our dentist did not recommend then coming in until the age of 2. I would bring my little ones with me when I went to the dentist and they would sit on my lap and watch so they would get used to the fact and were not scared when they got to sit in the BIG chair. They hygenist also would look at their teeth when I had my cleanings. However, all of this is because we have a great family dentist and would not change the office for the world!! Good luck and just make sure that you take care of those two precious teeth.
