When to Expect My Period Again

My daughter is now three months old, and I stopped nursing about 4-5 weeks ago, about the same time I had my period. It was sporadic, a few days on, two off, back again for three, etc. I know that when you're nursing your period can be irregular (if not non-existant), but now that I've weaned to formula, I figured I'd have gotten it again. I can't take hormonal birth control such as the pill due to interactions with my anti-depressants, so I know it's nothing to do with that. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I don't know what else to do. This is starting to stress me out, and I know I'm over-reacting, but I'm just wondering how long it's taken other mom's to get back into the swing of things? Any insight/advice is VERY much appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I've never really breastfed before (gave up after only a few weeks with my older two) and my periods always came back right away. I've decided to stop worrying and start enjoying the fact that I'm cramp-free still! :) Thanks again for the reassurance!

I couldn't stand not having a regular period when I was breastfeeding and my doc told me it could take months to come back, and you do not want to be freaking out thinking you are pregnant all the time. I'm not sure if it would work with your meds, but I took a progesterone only pill, but I think that it only works if you are still breastfeeding, so it probably wouldn't help you. Just know that it is normal for it to take awhile, and it will come back, nothing is wrong!

with my daughter i breastfed for the full yr and i didnt get my period till she was 6-7 months and then it would be normal for 2-3days and then be done for a day and then come back for a day. and it was pretty much the same with my son other then my period came bak sooner. it sucked cause u would think it was done and then it would be back. but it does get better. it sucks u cant take birth conrol cuz it helps to regulate it. or at least it did with me when i had my daughter.

It can take a really long time just depending on the person. I know of women that don't get it back for a year with each of their kids so it seems to be consistant. How long did it take with your other kids?
Good luck with it,

I also stopped breastfeeding my son around 3 months old and switched to formula. He was 9 months old before I got my period again. It could come back quickly or it could take a long time to return. It's prefectly normal. But feel free to ask your doctor at what point you should become concerned. I am sure eventually every thing will get back in the swing of things ... cramps and all!

Oh my, I think it took me a year to get back to normal. For a few months I would go pretty good for a few days then stop for almost 4 days and then start right back up for another 5 days. It drove me crazy. It might have continued like that but I started a different set of pills (yeah, during my wacky periods I was taking Ortho....really sucked).

So I'm guessing there isn't much to do about it. I think you just have to tough it out for a bit. When you think about it though, you did spend 9 months with no period and crazy hormones....it's gonna take some time to recover from that.

I feel for ya.
