Know I have this weird sharp pain that I can't even explain and my bleeding increased more. I breast fed my boys, and I think it was 4 or 5 months before I got my period. I also waited until I had the followup appointment (6 weeks, I believe) with my doctor before I had sex.

My youngest is 8 years old, so it's been awhile. But if I remember correctly, I had bleeding for 4 or 5 weeks after he was born. Also, the bleeding would be heavier the more active I was. And I could absolutely see you having sharp pains if you were overdoing it. Sex would, I believe, be considered overdoing it.

You need to talk to your Dr. You are still healing and literally could have screwed something up.

Weren't you told no sex at least 6 weeks?

You need to address this with the Dr and get some sort of birth control too or you'll be pregnant again in the blink of an eye.

Educate yourself. This is something we'll known among moms, even first timers.

I find it hard to believe this is real based on your verbage and question.

Ya know - doctors recommend 6 to 8 weeks recovery time after having a baby before having sex again.
If you aren't going to listen to your doctor - why would you listen to anything we might have to say?
There's such a thing as pulled stitches.
If you are not using birth control - you might very well not get your period back before you get pregnant again.

I was told 6 weeks after c-sections. That's a major incision and needs to heal. You have an internal and an external wound right? My doctor wanted to check me out before she gave me the A OK to go ahead.
Also - remember, the placenta detached from your uterus - so that needs to heal too. That's why women bleed postpartum. So that needs to stop before you have sex - otherwise, it's not completely healed.
The main thing is - infection. Not to mention you will likely be sore or it might not feel comfortable.
I breastfed my babies so my cycle returned to normal once I had stopped. Not sure how long if you don't. These would be good questions to ask your doctor.

M.,

You talk/type like a 19 year old. Almost pornographic. It's a tad put-offing.

You have no idea how your body works or how babies are made? You had unprotected sex. You could be pregnant again.

GO TO YOUR OB/GYN!!!

Go to school and get an education on human reproduction. I'm not trying to be rude, but REALLY? You're not even married and having a baby, your boyfriend doesn't know anything about human reproduction and now you're asking a group of strangers instead of your doctor?

It's IMPORTANT to check because you had a C-SECTION! DAH!!! Your body was CUT OPEN!! Are you totally healed? Or did you let your boyfriend to convince you to have sex "because he misses it so much"?

I have never had a C-section. However, your body is adjusting after giving birth. You shouldn't have sex for at least 6 weeks post partum. It's only been FOUR. Talk about lack of self control. URGH!!

IF you don't know when your period comes? Maybe you should NOT be having sex, having babies or having a boy friend. Please. Really. Seriously. This is ridiculous.

Your period coming back has a lot more to do with your breastfeeding than it does with what method of delivery you had. Regardless of whether you had a vaginal delivery or C-section, the return of your periods has to do with hormones, and if you breast feed, it's much longer.

I think you should check your post-op instructions. I'll bet they say to wait for your 6 week check-up before having intercourse. What do you mean, "Why is it important to check with doctor?" Because you had major surgery! Major, invasive surgery with an incision in your uterus and in the abdominal wall.

You'll know it's your period when you have several of them on a schedule.

Meantime, every single women's health book out there will tell you to assume that you are fertile at all times, and you must use reliable contraception. Talk to your doctor immediately about your plans for a reliable birth control method based on your medical history and family history, and get on it when it's medically acceptable. Tell your partner that you are a new mom and he can wait the full 6-8 weeks if he loves you and doesn't want you to have complications. And please tell yourself that you are worthy of being a whole and complete woman with a good health profile, and that your baby is entitled to a mother (and in fact, 2 parents) who are smart enough to make much more educated sexual and health decisions than this one. Get a book such as "Our Bodies, Ourselves" so you stop using terms like "cummed" and "full intercourse" and stop doing things that cause pain and increase bleeding. A good book (well reviewed by women's organizations, for example) and a frank discussion with your physician or a great counselor at Planned Parenthood will help you learn about postpartum bleeding, resumption of ovulation, fertility and much more. Take your partner with you - he needs to learn more too. No well-informed man would ever dream of having intercourse with a woman he loved so soon out of surgery.

You shoudn't have even tried to have intercourse at all without the doctor having cleared you for it. Didn't you know that, or did you just ignore the fact that you had abdominal surgery?

Get to the doctor right away. And No More Sex until your doctor approves it! And for crying out loud, use birth control! Amen to Diane saying to take your partner with you to the doctor. You both seem to be totally clueless, and you both need educating!

You probably should have waited longer to let your body heal - that's why you have a post-op/postpartum visit with your doctor and are supposed to wait until they clear you. Your body isn't ready for you to start again right away. That's why your bleeding increased and you are having pains.

Your period can come back anytime. It varies for everyone. It could be a month, it could be a year, and it could be anywhere in between (or longer). Breastfeeding will probably make it longer but there's no guarantee.

You are more fertile now than ever. If you don't want another pregnancy, do not rely on breastfeeding and pulling out as your methods of birth control. Neither one is effective.

Talk to your OB right away to make sure you haven't injured yourself as everyone below mentioned.

As for your actual question - I'm sorry, but there is no concrete answer. I had 2 c-sections and I breastfed both babies for more than 1 year. With one baby, my period returned 10 months after birth. With the other, my period returned immediately. And you can become pregnant even before your 1st period so you need to be on birth control. That said, I do not think that the sharp pain and bleeding you are experiencing right now is a period, I think you may have injured yourself. You have internal stitches that could have torn. You need a doctor's opinion.

Call your OB today, and after she checks you out to make sure you are ok, ask about the minipill or mirena. Both are safe to use while breastfeeding.

You will bleed like a period for several weeks after a c-section. I think it was 2-3 weeks for me. My first c-section my normal period started again when I stopped nursing at 14 months. My 2nd c-section my normal period started about 9 months later. My doctor told me to not have sex until 6-8 weeks after my c-sections in order for my body to heal. You need to be careful not to break your stitches.
