When Does the Hair Loss Stop?

OK, so my daughter is almost 4 months now and I'm still breastfeeding, I feel like I'm almost back to being myself after having a baby, but when does the hair loss stop? My bathroom floor looks like I have black shag rug (I have black hair), yikes!! I lose so much in the shower and when I brush and style it. I had a lot of hair to start with, but I'm starting to worry a little, I don't remember it being this bad with my first. Can I do anything to stop it?

What can I do next?

Hi E S do you believe your hair loss is due to you having a baby, of breastfeeding? stress, diet, among other things can cause you to loose your hair. My son's girlfriend braided my hair I kept it braided for almost a week and a half and when she took the braids out for me and I ran my fingers through my hair, goobs of my hair feel out in my hand, I was freaked, cause I don't have thick hair, it was awful. Find out for sure if it's the breast feeding or having a baby is causing your hair loss and go from there. J. L.

I know exactly what you mean. at 4 months postpartum I started to lose mine. It got so bad I started to see a receding hairline. I started to freak out thinking I either had to invest in rogaine for women or hair plugs or a wig or something. It only lasted about a month and a half or so and now I have hair coming back and stronger and healthier. It will pass. Until then you just have to deal with it. avoid having it pulled back tight. I hear bangs are a good cover up in the meantime.

My DS is 5 1/2 months and I'm still losing...but it seems to have slowed down a little bit from a month ago. I basically stopped blow drying and brushing my hair unless I have to look picture perfect that day. I'm also using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner, I'm not sure whether it's working. After showering, I just run a wide-tooth comb through to get out the tangles and air dry.

I feel your pain.

My doctor and hair stylist both say that it takes 9 months to build up the hair, and 9 months to lose it...I know it seems like you are losing a lot, but you won't go bald.

Hang in there, it will start slowing soon, my hair always slows down when the babies are 6 months old and seems to be back to normal fall out by 9 months.

By the way - I tried the Arbonne shampoo and conditioner - spent a fortune on it and it didn't make a bit of difference. You can't help a hormonal hair "drop!"

Along the lines of what everyone else is saying. 4 or 5 months is when it peaks and then slows down. Hair came back great after both mine. I just had another round of loss a couple months ago (dauger was 14mo.) ?????? Very weird I can only assume it is because I am still breastfeeding and hormones went wonky. Getting my second round of baby fuzz and what I lovingly refer to as "hair horns". Be patient and try not to stress about it (makes it worse) it is temporary.

Hi there! For me, my hair loss finally stopped anywhere between the 6th and 7th month post partum. I would wonder everyday when it would stop because it would really gross me out seeing SOOOO much hair coming outta my head while im showering. But hang in there E S, it'll subside in a few months.
