When Do I Buy a Potty?

We bought our daughter a potty seat when she was around your daughter's age. We didn't push the potty training though, we just thought it would be a good idea to have it in the bathroom so she could get used to the idea. I have not pushed her to it, usually she will come and sit on her potty if I am in the bathroom, and she does sometimes use it, although more often than not now she will want to use the big potty (I got her a seat that fits on it) rather than her chair.

My daughter just turned 17 months, I bought her a little potty and a potty insert for our toilet. She uses the little potty as socks storage, but uses the potty insert everyday. In the morning she poops and pees and then usually pees after her nap and sometimes before bed. We aren't forcing the issue, if she pees or poops she does, if not.. oh well:) Good luck.

Is she wanting to sit on the potty at all after watching you go? I would get one of those smaller seats and a step stool and if she asks to sit on it just put the seat on the potty and leave her clothes on and let her sit there. It is never too early to invest in a potty seat. My daughter is 18 months and she has been wanting to go "potty" a lot so we just sit her on it so she gets used to it and I just put her on there before bath time and she has actually gone a few times!!!!! Don't stress about it but don't deny it either. By doing this I had my son pee trained by 2 which I think is a big accomplishment for a boy! I'm hoping to have my daughter fully trained by 2 also.

Now is a great time to get her just interested. Just for fun have her sit on it when you go in the potty. Make it fun and even have her decorate it with her favorite stickers. My daughter loved her "potty chair" and wasn't fully trained until almost three but she got the idea, had interest around 20 mos and would on occassion go on the kid potty herself well before three. Just being patient and letting them go with what timeline they need is best and there is always a bonus of having her have her own potty now and being comfortable with it.

Wait until she starts showing interest in using it herself. At that point, if you buy some thing and start training and she backs off all of a sudden, she wasn't ready yet after all. I definitely recommend books about it and about what happens to your, sorry, poo when you flush.

I'd check out "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" by Dr. Azrin. We love it, and I have several friends who swear by it. It's great!

I see no harm in having one in the bathroom so she can familiarize herself with it. I am also reading Toilet Training in One Day by Dr. Azrin, however, it was written in the 1970's and I am having trouble reading it mostly because of the out dated language / terminology that is used, a lot of words that he uses are now politically incorrect and kind of offensive. I am still trying to power through it. I also have a couple of other books I reserved at the library, one is called Potty Training in One Day, I think I'll read these three and see which one fits our lifestyle and my DS best.
