My aunt is hosting a family get together this weekend. We will be traveling 2 hours to get there. My sister lives near her so I could get to town early to prepare something but need some ideas of something fun! Its a pool party. I asked her what I can bring & she said nothing but I can't show up with my entire family empty handed. I am planning on getting her a bottle of wine to thank her for hosting. it will be adults and kids party. We will be staying in a hotel the night before so the quicker, the better!

Thanks all!

Knowing that you're traveling, I'm sure the hostess does not expect or want you to bring anything.

My thought would be to show up with a cooler full of cold beverages. You could pack it up in the car and it'll be fine overnight. Stop the next morning and pick up a bag of ice.

I would stay late to help clean up and then invite her to your hotel to join you for breakfast or go to her house and cook breakfast for her whole crew. It's often the day after a big get together that people really need the help.

What about a variety of drinks? Wal-Mart has sun-tea styled plastic jugs with spouts on them for about $2-3 each. You could put lemonade in one, pink lemonade in another, fruit punch, margaritas, pina coladas... both kids and adults are happy!

Stop for a bag of ice on your way. With the weather heating up in this area, I think drinks and ice would be a welcomed addition to an outdoor pool party! Pick up some silly straws for the kids and have a great time with your family!

Desserts are always a winner! You could do cookies a day or two ahead and just seal them up good so they stay fresh. Or go really simple and do rice krispie treats. Or even simpler and grab some fresh baked things from the bakery in town or even from the supermarket.

I always love to make a veggie pizza to take to parties. It's pretty easy to make most of it ahead of time -- bake the crust (two cans of crescent rolls pressed together flat on a sheet pan) and wrap tightly with plastic wrap so it doesn't get stale, chop up the veggies (anything you want, I do broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes) and put in plastic baggies, mix up the base (packet of ranch dressing, 2 bricks of softened cream cheese, and 1 cup mayo) and put in a disposable container. You'll also need a bag of shredded cheese. Take it all with you in a small cooler, then just put it together quick when you get to your sister's place. You might need to nuke the cream cheese for a few seconds to make it spreadable. So yummy!

If you have the option of getting there early and your sister has freezer space available make an ice cream sandwich cake! So easy even kids can make them, but who doesn't love feeling like a kid again? It doesn't take much time at all to prepare, and you can make it in a disposable aluminum pan. Jazz it up with whatever flavor of ice cream sandwiches you like (I use Neapolitan) and toppings like butterscotch or marshmallow. Chop up candy bars or Oreos to sprinkle on top and everyone will love it : )

I agree with Sherry...go to a local grocery store and get a fruit or veggie platter. They are always a hit, even when there is more than one. That way you don't have to worry about going to your sister's house, you can just pick it up that day. Have fun!!! Good luck and God Bless.
