What's the Best Way to Loose Belly Fat?

I just had my 4th and last child (for a while anyway) and am wondering what to do to get rid of this belly. It actually just seems to be getting bigger. I go to the gym and do Yoga, Step, treadmill, 3-4 times per week. I can see a difference in hips, thighs, a buttox but not the waste. Granted, I'm not really targeting that area with those workouts. Anyway, I don't want to take pills or extreme diet and want to know what has worked for you other ladies. So, what are the best exercises and foods to eat or avoid. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Do a power walk for 30 seconds, slow down(moderate walk) for 30 seconds, and repeat cycle for at least 30 minutes while holding your abdomen in and of course proper breathing. Do this 3-5 times a week. You can even walk while strolling your baby. This will work the core of your body and help to burn off unwanted areas of your abdomen. Be sure to warm up slowly before starting and slow your pace at the end to cool down. Hope this helps. Be encouraged, it takes time.

making sure I get less calories than expending, upping the water and cutting back on starchy carbs (even if it is complex carb like whole wheat bread or pasta) especially at night has been the most helpful for me. Also, pilates is great for tummy.

Of course exercise and diet will help. For me personally, running helps in the abdominal area. There are many factors that can cause our bodies to become resistant to diet and exercise which include heredity, hormones, etc. I have been an athlete all my life. I spent 13 years in the military, mostly with the Marine Corps and have been competitive a runner. After my two kids, especially the youngest, I found myself a bit bigger in the problem areas with cellulite as well. I found a local lady who did Endermologie and tried it. At first I thought I had wasted my money because I didn't see the results right away. I hate gimmics and thought I had just bought into another one. Sure enough after 2 months, I put on a pant suit that I had bought before I started and the pants were loose. I was hooked!! This past year she moved to Houston to be with her husband who transferred with his work so I opened my own Endermologie clinic in Corpus. That's how much I believe in it. I'm a terrible salesman so all I can do is tell people my personal story. It is not a weight loss treatment, but it's perfect for those who workout and have a healthy lifestyle, yet still seem to have those problem areas. If you want to learn about it the website is www.lipomassage-usa.com or if you have any questions about it you can email me at ____@____.com. Sorry this sounds so much like an ad! Your situation is something most of us moms can relate to. Best of luck!

I saw an article in Parents magazine 12 or 18 months ago about a woman who had reconstructive plastic surgery after the birth of her twins. She had developed separated stomach muscles due to pregnancy and, according to the article, there was little that diet and exercise could do to fix her abdominal region.

I apologize if I sound pessimistic. Just want to relay the info in case it helps with any workout frustration you're feeling.

There are several websites I found that discuss separated stomach muscles and offer exercise suggestions. There is also a link to a thread where a woman asked almost the same question; I pasted in the trainer's response below:

http://www.pregnancy-info.net/separated_muscles.html
http://forum.lowcarber.org/archive/index.php/t-27257.html

"If it was due to a C-section, then the answer is gernerally no. Muscle tissue WILL heal over time, but once those muscles are cut, they won't be the same again. And, if the transverse abdominus is cut/stretched out during pregnancy, there is no real way to work that muscle. Double whammy.

HOWEVER, that isn't to say that you should stop training abs. Actually, it is more important now. The rest of the abdomonal group needs to be stronger to share the workload of the other muscles."

Hmmm, found this comment about how certain exercises might make separate stomach muscles seem worse (great... why even bother--Let's all go eat a cheeseburger?!)

Postpartum moms should check their abdominal muscles for separation before starting any abdominal exercise program, because damage can be exacerbated by exercise if there is separation. Test this by pressing your fingers into the area by your belly button as you attempt to do an abdominal crunch. If you can put more than one or two fingers in between the muscles, they have separated and you will need to modify your crunches. Place your feet the same way, but cross your arms across the abdomen and squeezing the muscles together as you exhale and contract the abdominals, lifting only your head (not the shoulders). You may also use a length of material (such as old sheeting) wrapped around the abdomen and pulled across to achieve the same effect.

dear J.,
congrats on the anniversary.
i know this may sound weird but a friend of mine once used a massage roller on her legs trying to tenderise the muscle. the pressure she used was too much. the next day she had bruises all over her legs. it looked like she survived an alligator attack. but within a few days her legs were visibly smaller. i think she may have broken up alot of fat cells from the roller.
after i had my 2nd child i tried something simular on my stomach with my hands and raw shea butter. i had a cesarian so i had to weight 3 months but it still helped. using a lubricant on your tummy, and massage the fat away. hope you had as good as results as we did.

Exercize, although great, won't do it alone. You also need to make changes in your diet. Like making sure you are drinking 6-8 glasses of water, 4-5 servings of fruits and veggies, adding whole grains and 2 servings of dairy per day.

You also may not be eating enough. Believe it or not if you are not eating enough of all these healthy things your body will hold on to the fat. Before I started Weight Watchers no matter what I did I could not lose weight or belly fat. Since Weight Watchers is not a diet, I do not feel deprived and was able to begin losing weight fairly easily. I have noticed a huge difference in my belly, thighs and butt!! There are other plans out there for healthy eating too. My thought is that you just aren't eating enough!

Also I do Weight Watchers online and I don't go to meetings, and it is working for me!

Hope that helps!
