What Is Your Favorite Thing to Cook or Bake?

My questions have been pretty heavy lately. So, I am going to try to lighten up a little.

I love to cook (and bake). I don't really have any favorite things to make anymore, though I find sauteed veggies are soothing to make (and eat:). Making cookies with the boys is a blast, regardless of what we end up with.

Do you cook or bake for fun or stress relief? What is your favorite thing to make?

What can I do next?

Gingerbread! We bake it all year round. Who can be stressed when the house smells like freshly baked gingerbread? lol

I love to bake more than cook. I do get in the mood to cook every now and then, but baking is more fun. Agree with you about the sautéed veggies.
My favorites are making cake pops, lemon-white chocolate truffles, cookies, cheesecake, tiramisu, and canolis.

for me, cooking/baking is both fun & a great stress reliever!

My grandmother taught us to fill the tummies....& souls....around us. Long before there was Black Friday, we would spend the day after Thanksgiving...from 8am (or earlier) thru past dinner....baking cookies for friends/family. Most years we exceeded the 1000 mark in just one day! It was our gift to our loved ones.

This set the tone for how we approach food. & I'm proud to say that for my Grandmother's funeral, my sis & I prepared all of the food for the entire family...thru those long 3 days of mourning & for the wake. It was our Honor to pay homage to her Legacy. :)

As for a favorite: any form of baking is wonderful. But I also enjoy preparing & creating basic meals....& especially fantastic holiday menus for a ton of family/friends!

I like to make pasta with homemade sauce. No jarred stuff here! Lol
Or baked ziti. Or meat stuffed shells.

For fall, homemade chicken pastina soup, chili, & vegetable beef soup.

And I like to bake brownies and GIANT chocolate chip cookies (like the cookie-cake size).

Right now I'm loving salad with Romaine lettuce, dried cranberries and Olive Garden Italian dressing & croutons.

Yes! In fact, I taught myself how to cook as a way to relieve stress. I started with pizza dough, and moved on to full scale baking (breads, cakes, pasta, etc.) I like things where I can get my hands a little dirty.

I don't have a favorite thing to make, but I do find myself on bad days working my way into the kitchen to make something. A few weeks ago it was mushroom turnovers.... One can never have too many good appetizers in the freezer ;-) On days when I am tired it might just be making some fresh pasta with a homemade sauce.

Soups or stews are my favorite things to cook. They can be made full of healthy ingredients and taste so satisfying.

My daughter so far doesn't like soup! So I make it for myself and eat it for days in a row, or whenever I can find someone else to cook for!.

I love to bake! Cookies are my most requested item, from my kids and my friends. I try to give the things I make away -- much better for my waistline!

I find baking soothing and great stress relief. My favorite thing is rolled sugar cookies decorated with royal icing. So excited the holidays are coming - starting my baking soon and filling the freezer with gifts for family and friends.

I totally cook for stress relief. I'm not a baker, unless you count my awesome biscuits :)
I love to make soup, and I've learned how to make all kinds of soups. Recently we put Tom Kah Kai on our menu and I make it from scratch with the chicken bones for the broth. There are a lot of steps for what ends up looking like a simple chicken soup, but once you taste all the different layers of flavor you can't stop eating it. I also make an amazing potato soup and a really great onion soup. And stew, can't forget stew, there's something about slow cooking anything that makes it seem that much yummier.

That said, my favorite thing to make is something I've never made before. Many times, the process is way more fun than the result. I've loved learning the philosophy behind Thai and Viet cuisine, how different cultures eat and prepare food is fascinating to me. You can learn a lot about a culture from their food. For instance, did you know that Vietnam is the rare Asian country that eats sandwiches on bread? It's because of the long French occupation, and now their bakeries are among the most revered in large cities. If you haven't eaten a Banh Mi sandwich or a good pork bun, you haven't lived. And don't get me started on Pho. My husband makes an amazing Pho Bo.

This is my livelihood, so I could go on forever about it, but I'll spare you lol :)

I don't really have a favorite. But this weekend my college age child is home and I cooked a bit in preparation. Homemade chilli, yummy! Cranberry salsa. I make a lot of banana bread and muffins. My kids are getting older and are not at home a lot. I am making carbs less often.

I. LOVE. PIE. All kinds! Cobbler, too. In my mind, cobblers fall into the "pie family." :) I bake because it's DELICIOUS. Plus, I happen to have hit the genetic jackpot and have a naturally high metabolism (THANK YOU MOM AND DAD!) so I can eat them and not have to worry *too* much.

Granted I have over 600 recipes to my repetoire, and share them all in my high altitude cookbooks. However, to answer this question I really do enjoy baking a double batch of my Great Grandmother's Biscuit dough. I use half of it for 2-3 inch biscuits that freeze well and the other half of the dough gets thinly rolled out, then spread with butter, dotted with raisins (or nuts) and then covered with a combo of brown sugar and cinnamon. And then I roll the dough up tightly like a jelly roll and I cut out 2 inch section until there is no dough left to cut. I then place these little scrumptious sections into a buttered pan and bake then just until the edges begin to brown. Ahh but once the dough has completed baking I get to bite into one of most favorite treats----a quick easy and deelicious biscuit based Cinnamon Roll.YUM!
