What Is Killing My scalp...Psoriasis, Eczema, Parasites, Cancer...Desperate!

My scalp is covered with sores, scales, black dots, wells, yellow crusting, and pits that look like moon craters. I am desperate here. I have seen five different doctors, taken three courses of antibiotics over a six month period, and nothing is working. It started around September 2015 when I ran out of one of my prescriptions that I have been taking for years. The doctor wouldn't give me a refill until he could see me but they didn't have any openings for weeks, so I decided to stop taking the medication thinking the uncontrollable itch would subside. Well, it only got worse. It started as a few bumps on my right arm and moved to my head or scalp. It pitched so bad, I called around and found a refill I had on file with a pharmacy and filled it quick. I was back on the meds, but the itching got worse and worse. It was now primarily on my scalp and it hurt so bad I cried at times. I finally went to an urgent care. I had a large lump on the bottom right hand base of my scalp that was so swollen, warm, and painful. The doctor looked at the opposite side of ny scalp which was apparently so severely dry he asked if I conditioned. I do. He gave me medication for what he thought to be a fungal infection. It's now February 2016 and I have lost over half of my hair, have bumps, sores, scales, yellow crusting, and all kinds of other issues on my scalp and don't know what it is or what else to do. I've tried all kinds of natural ways to clear it as well. I am really scared. I look at images in the internet trying to see which one resembles what I have but too many do. I have diagnosed myself with everything from eczema to Lupus, to cancer. Please help. I have pictures I can post if that would help. Scared and desperate.
Also, my son had severe cradle cap when he was a baby. It was so bad it was preventing his hair from growing. I was afraid to wash his hair with the medicated shampoo from the doctor so I soaked it down with baby oil until the thick scales were soft and gently combed it off and that cleared it up.

What can I do next?

I'm sorry you're having to deal with such problems. My daughter has had significant problems with her skin, and the itching has been unbearable at times.

It's interesting that your problems started when you stopped taking a long-term prescription. If you feel like it, tell us what that was and why you were taking it. You might consult the pharmacist, and ask if stopping that medication cold turkey like you did could have caused the effects you're experiencing now.

Have you seen a dermatologist, and an infectious disease doctor, and a rheumatologist (that's the doctor who diagnoses Lupus and other autoimmune diseases). If not, you should. And have any of your doctors biopsied your scalp? My daughter had a skin biopsy on two occasions. They take a very small portion of skin (after numbing the area) and evaluate it at a pathology lab. The area is stitched up with just a couple of stitches.

Re-think your shampoo and conditioner. Some of the ones that are advertised as being helpful for problems are actually very harsh. Ask a pharmacist for the most mild shampoo for scalp issues. Ask the dermatologist for recommendations about how to wash your hair (how often, with what, etc).

Ask the doctors: what would you do if you were me? Can you recommend a specialist? Ask if foods or medications can cause symptoms like yours. Don't stop seeking answers.

oh dear, i can absolutely see why you're frantic, this must be unbearable.
but you have probably exacerbated the situation by going off one med cold turkey, and perhaps by trying too many things in too short a period.
my instinct is to suggest just going to a dermatologist, who would seem to be the most obvious one to find a solution. but it needs to be a really good dermatologist (an awful lot of them any more seem to be in business to push beauty treatments, not actually solve skin issues) who will refer you to another specialist if her treatments don't work.
the worst thing you can do, irresistible though it is, is to consult dr google.
you're way beyond the point of 'natural ways to clear it up.' find the best doctor you can in your area, and work with her intensively. don't bounce from doctor to doctor, don't bounce from treatment to treatment, and stay off the internet.
good luck, hon.

Misha, wow, it sound like you are having a flare up of something that was only "just" controlled in the past. Unfortunately, most of us online are not able to properly assess symptoms like this, and the best advice any of us can give you is to follow up with a dermatologist specialist.

I would also suggest that you contact an allergist. A lot of times, allergies can manifest dermatologically, and it is possible to develop allergies even as an adult. Additionally, stress can cause our bodies to react in physical ways.

Meditation, dietary changes and discontinuing the use of certain products can all be beneficial to reduce/prevent symptoms, but you may need medicated products or medications to deal with the current flare up & get your symptoms under control.

Keep an open mind to different types of therapies, and be proactive in asking questions - Why is something being suggested, what evidence is there that it might work, what should you notice to indicate that it is working & in what time frame, how long should something be used before determining it is not working, etc.

Best of luck! T. :)

Maybe autoimmune disease and you're having a flare-up. You could try cleaning up your diet for a while to see if it helps. Increase vegetables and fruit, legumes, grains and try to avoid animal proteins. My son has an autoimmune disease and a clean diet helps with inflammation. We all eat cleaner and my scalp issues have gone away....I was impressed!

Good Luck,
S.

Please see the doctors Elena recommends. I'm thinking some kind of steroid might help, but you need a good doctor to give you the attention you deserve. I have a feeling your hair will grow back once you fix this problem, and since I lost my hair profusely after each baby, I know how terrible it is to lose your hair.

Yes, for your son, oil is a better remedy than medicated shampoo. You can also use olive oil.

Any of these? Tinea capitis, maybe? https://www.google.com/search?q=severe+rash+on+scalp&...

Sounds like you dropped your medication cold turkey and your body went into rebellion in a hurry! I am so sorry you're going through this.

I have a friend who basically woke up one morning and her hair started falling out. Within a few months she was completely bald. Not one doc can explain what happened to her either. Our bodies have a mind of their own.

I would think you're allergic to something very basic that is in most anything. Maybe even something like plastic. I don't know. I feel so sad for you.

It sounds like folliculitis which is an infection of the hair follicles where by the skin becomes infected at the root and takes on the appearance of a gigantic pimple. It can be very ugly and painful; the sores will ooze puss, etc. You will need a prescription from the doctor for this.
