Hi moms...
so last night my 4 year old had 100.4... gave him some tylenol, went to sleep (he's been coughing for a few days)... checked on him at night, cold as a cucumber... same in the AM... what could it be/?? did he really have a fever or was his body just warm??? i dont get it... is he sick or not??? kept him from school today, obviously, but he's running around, like nothing happened... any ideas?

What can I do next?

The same exact thing happened to my three-and-a-half year-old just yesterday. She was still playful and today she is totally back to normal. I don't know if it was some 24-hour bug or what, but I'm keeping her home today just the same. I may not have been much help, but I know what you're going through!

If he's running around that's good. Keep an eye (or ear) on the cough and remember to remind him to cough in his arm and not out in the air.

Fever is a sign your body is fighting something (illness, virus etc). So it may be he was able to fight it off and the tylenol helped reduce the fever. If it doesn't come back - no worries. Just keep an eye on him.

There are SO many things that can cause fever, and depending on his immune system it could take days or hours to get out of his system.

If you're concerned, I'd recommend making a call to the pediatrician, asking if there's anything particular going around that you need to be aware of, and if all's well tomorrow, send him back to school.

Good luck.

It sounds quite normal to me. Of course his body would feel cool after you gave him Tylenol. It is a fever reducer. It may or may not come back, so keep an eye on his symptoms. If all the symptoms are gone, the fever did what it needed to do and his immune system has successfully conquered the virus. Not every virus has to turn into a big nasty prolonged ordeal especially as he gets older. His body has learned how to fight of many common viruses at the age of 4, so you may notice he gets sick less often.
