Hi Moms -

I'm looking for some good websites I can pass on to a mom whose daughter is having some ADHD related behavior problems -

I'm not seeking Medicine treatment is bad/good sites -

These parents have spent months trying alternative type solutions other than medicine - and they are not working - She is coming to terms with the situation and that it might be best for the child to try medication - I know ALOT of you know where she is - I myself have been there !!

I just can't seem to remember any good websites.
Thanks for the help

There is so much side effects with medication, I know of so many moms who have found a nutritional food supplementthat has heoped, I will be happy to share information and have them talk to other moms who benefited with the supplements and have their kids back to normal. Please let them get in touch with me at ###-###-####.

I do not know of the websites but might I suggest the following:

remove all the following from the child's diet: carbornated/caffiene drinks, sugary/yeast products... no burger king/mcdonald's/church's chicken/pizza inn etc.

eat more fresh fruits/vegetables, fish, soy products

limit television viewing/video games; read more books, work on/develop hobbies

set/stick to time frames/rules

structured/consistent discipline... no means no

good luck.

Good Morning, A.,
A website where your friend and her daughter can read some information about ADHD is www.RU-AttentionDeficit.com . There is good information and suggestions there.
Good Luck!

I too am there. Here is a great website that provides info on ADD for girls:http://www.addvance.com. It has lots of info and many links to others. Also, there are books out there that explain ADD in girls. Another good source is to check http://add.about.com and http://www.helpforadd.com/add-in-girls/ and http://www.4-adhd.com/girls-with-adhd.html.

What I have read in these sites is medicine, alone, is not the best treatment for children with ADHD. Medicine with behavior modification and diet are crucial for better outcomes according to the thousands of articles that I have read.

Now, we did take our daughter to a developmental pediatrician who did prescribe medicines. They did not work, made things worse. Please, have your friend take her daughter to see a pediatrician who is up-to-date on the meds. We have found so much more about the meds than what is out there. We were not aware that if a child has problems with agression, it will be worse if taking these meds. We had so badly hoped meds would work for her...it's painful to see her struggle academically and socially. We were disappointed to see that the meds that everyone else seems to have success with actually made our daughter worse. Our daughter does have sensory processing issues, and this learning disorder is often misdiagnosed as being ADHD. Occupation therapy has provided the most help with focusing and certain behavior issues. We are now going to try the behavior modification technique. We have changed the diet to eliminate red dye, high-fructose, refined sugar, and use Nordic Naturals Omega 3, and supplement her diet with vitamins like B-12, magnesium...nutrients that children with ADD seem to lack. Her grades, self-esteem is showing great improvements. I hope the behavior modification techniques that we have read about will help with the social aspects of a girl with ADD. It is so hard to see your child looked down upon because of her disability, not only by her peers but the educational system, as well.

Sorry, I can not advise you on any web sites, however I can offer my personal opinion. I commend your friend for attempting alternative solutions to her childs labeled ADHD and not getting prescribed medicine.
I am not sure what all she has tried, but sugar seems to be the main cause & processed foods are the worse ones. Please tell your friend to try this for 2 weeks. Cook everything from scratch as much as possible. NO processed foods (if it comes prepared &/or in a box...it's processed), no sodas, no candy, no sugar cereal. Make a good Breakfast Try Fresh organic eggs for breakfast w/fresh peeled potatoes, & turkey bacon is ok,(you can make it the night before & reheat it in the oven in the morning). Buy fresh oranges, squeeze your own juice, or organic milk. For lunch fresh fruits and veggies with that sandwich, peanut butter & butter or just peanut butter...no jelly. And dinner boil your own noodles from the big bag (not the kraft Mac & Cheese or Velvetta) And use real cheese & organic milk. The main thing is to keep everything as raw, natural non-microwaved as possible & you WILL see a difference in their behavior.
