Wanting to Get Pregnant - Tomorrow!

Hi. I know this may sound very silly. In fact, I feel silly asking. I am 40, soon to be 41. We have decided to try for number two, and have been for a few months now. Baby #1 is 12 months, and we never went on birth control. We had to go to the clinic for baby #1 just for IUI, there were no problems, but 2 years into trying, still had nothing. I would really like to get pregnant THIS MONTH. That would be great - an October baby. (Baby 1 is a December baby).
Hubie doesn't want to go back to the clinic - he's sure he can do it this time. Meanwhile did I mention I will be 41? :)

I am ovulating tonight/tomorrow. Any bonafide or silly suggestions to help encourage a pregnancy with this month would be very welcome.
Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Get busy for the next two days. Some say having sex missioary style can help to keep the semen inside of you. After the deed hold you legs up and stay there for at least 20 - 30 minutes. Helps from things coming back out that could be potential baby making things. Good luck.. I did this with both my prego. Success on month two with baby #1 and success on frist month with baby #2

You do not sound silly at all. Nothing like planning to a tee. I do want to warn you though that the more you get worked up about planning and setting the perfect time and focusing on your age, etc. the more likely you will NOT get pregnant. Another thing to remember is a baby comes when a baby is ready, period. We can only do so much.

All that being said, here are some silly things to try;
- RELAX, do not make this a stress thing. Babies don't come this way
- Try to be sure to climax when you have sex, this opens up the window as it were for the parts and pieces to connect.
- Once you are done, stand on your head or lift your pelvis way up in the air for as long as you can stand it. You look silly but who cares right?

This is all I got. I really have no scientific proof that any of this works, I just think it is worth a try. I do know that you should not worry AT ALL about getting pregnant and you should never be upset if the second one never comes. Everything happens for a reason and you already have one little miracle. Life is beautiful and we all need to enjoy it for what it is and be thankful if more is offered. Ya know?

Good luck!

P.S. I am 40 and would love to have another as well. Go for it girl, age is nothing.

Hey sister girlfriend,

I'm 40, pregnant, and will deliver right after my 41st birthday. It can be done! And it will! You are fertile enough for having babies, as evidenced by baby #1, so relax and let nature take its course. I've actually had 2 other babies in the last 3 years, so trust me when I say only listen to a fraction of what the "experts" and books say about lessening chances for fertility. Because it's also a fact that as women age, they drop more eggs as their body rids of them in prep for menopause, so your chances of multiples is higher (yay for you!). Eat right (healthy), take your prenatal vitamins now, be healthy and strong (you'll need it, trust me) and keep the positive attitude. This pregnancy came out of NOWHERE... we weren't even trying, in fact, I don't believe I was ovulating when he was conceived! He's truly a mystery baby and my first boy (yippee!) so I KNOW he was meant to be. One tip I heard from a gyn once... doggie style is highly effective in getting pregnant too, because the little mr. happy's shoot right where they need to be for impregnating!! :) Have fun!

For me, this is the most important thing. Relax. Enjoy. Embrace each other. Really make love to one another. Don't just have sex to try to have a baby. Be in tune with one another. Make love the way God intended it to be. That's how we got our little blessing (granted I'm 23, but I think it applies to all ages). Good luck!

An article I just sent my friend who is trying... thought you migh like to read it.

The odds of getting pregnant decline with age. The odds of getting pregnant are the greatest for a woman in her early twenties and then slowly decline with the passing years. Here are some numbers related to the chances of getting pregnant and age:

1. For ages early to mid-thirties - a woman in general will be about 15-20% less fertile.

2. For ages mid to late thirties - fertility will generally decline by up to 50%.

3. For women ages early to mid-forties - fertility declines by over 90%.

Why do the odds of getting pregnant generally decline as the woman gets older? Studies have indicated the reasons for fertility decline are related to the quality of the woman's eggs as well as the quantity. A woman in her lifetime will typically produce about 400 fully developed eggs (usually one per month) that are capable of becoming implanted in the uterus and causing pregnancy. As these eggs get used up over thirty years or so and estrogen production slows so that the uterine and vaginal linings are no longer properly stimulated, pregnancy becomes less and less likely.

And what about the male's role, age and the odds of getting pregnant? Studies have found that the probability of causing pregnancy for a man in his late thirties declines by about 40% from the probability during his twenties to mid-thirties.

How does a woman increase the odds of getting pregnant? Here are some tips:

• Know your fertile time - ovulation generally happens about 14 days before your next period begins. For women with cycles of 28 days, that could make day #14 your most fertile for getting pregnant (day #1 being the first day that your last period began).

• Monitor your basal body temperature - the slight elevations in your body temperature upon awakening each day will signal your most fertile time.

• Monitor your cervical mucus - ovulation will cause a change in the appearance and consistency of cervical mucus. Check yourself each day and you'll be able to see the 'egg-white-like' vaginal discharge that indicates ovulation and your most fertile time.

• Adopt a healthy lifestyle - the odds of getting pregnant increase the more healthy you are. Healthy living includes a sensible diet, nutritional supplements, adequate quality sleep, managing stress, some exercise and weight management.

We tried for our 2nd for a year and a half (I'm 38) - basal temp, ovulation sticks, nothing worked. A friend told us something her dr told her and it worked on the first try! Starting from the last day of your period to the first day of your next period, have sex EVERY OTHER DAY (I know, we're in college right?) Keep checking your ovulation and if you detect ovulation have sex that night, the next morning and the next night then you can be done. I never detected ovulation but did the every other day thing and it worked. I think a lot of the problem is that when people are depending on detecting their ovulation it often happens too late. I think I was an early ovulator and never knew it. It might seem like a lot of work right now but the result is worth it!! :-) Good luck!
