Walking Already?

My oldest my son was crawling on his 1/2 birthday exactly 6 months and walking at 8 1/2 months and singing the ABC's, talking in full sentences, and understanding some simple spanish words (I swear) by the age of 2, Doctors always took a double take at his chart because he was and still is such a motor mouth. Then my daughter came along and she is the opposite she was 7 months old when she crawled, 10 months old before she could walk, and now she is shy of 18 months and starting to put 2 and 3 words together. She tries to keep up with big brother but other than that he does things for her and speaks for her so she just sits back for the ride, must be nice. So with my youngest it is the opposite. :)

My oldest was walking independantly at 10 1/2 months. I have seen and heard of babies that young (and even a little younger) walking independantly. Like you said, the milestones occur on a continuum(sp?), with each child reaching them at their own pace. I think walking is usually achieved between 10 & 18 months, with most babies walking at 12-13mos.

My first walked at 14 months and my second walked at 10 months. I don't know if this is because of birth order or not. My first spoke words and sentences a lot earlier than my second. He actually is just now starting to put two words together and he is 20 months old.

My kids all started walking between 9 and 10 months, but my cousins son, started walking at 6 and a half months old, he was an only child, but around cousins all the time. It was so funny seeing this little guy walking around, I can still see his tiny little legs going, it was unreal. He's now 24 and has no problems, one of her doctors told her to not allow him to walk that early, because it would cause him problems later in life. He ran track, and his relay team went to states in high school twice. So, I would have to say, the doctors didn't know what they were talking about. So now your little one will be moving, with you moving as well. Enjoy:)Sue

My oldest child was walking at 10 months old. He started climbing and holding on to furniture around 8 months old too. I think it all depends on the child. :)

My last child, the youngest of 5, was advanced at everything as well. She walked with furniture at 7 months, took her first steps alone at 9 months and had an amazing early vocabulary. I do believe that being around her older siblings helped give her a tremendous boost just as it seems to be doing for your son. Best of luck to you!!

My son started walking around 8 months holding onto furniture and such. By the time he turned 9 months he was walking without any help. 10 months it was over. This is when he started to run.

My daughter started walking around 9/10 months and my son walked at 11 months. I think having a big sister helped him alot because she would always be holding his hands and helping him walk, but, I did the same thing with her. I really just think its how much you work with them:-))

My daughter who is the oldest, started standing at 4 months, crawling at 5 months and walking/running at 8 months. No joke! She was also speaking in full sentences before the age of 2!

My son who is the youngest, started crawling at 6 months and standing/walking/running all between 8 and 9 months. And at 19 months can only say a handful of words.

I really think it all depends on the child. I'm sure number and age of siblings is a factor though, because I see my daughter speak FOR my son alot. I think he see's it as...she's doing it so I don't have to? I don't know, it's strange and frustrating. I am so use to communicating with my daughter who has always spoken clearly so sometimes my son throws (and I want to throw) HUGE temper tantrums because we just can't communicate at all!

My Oldest Walked by himself at 13 months. My 2nd (developmentally delayed) walked at 20 months. My 6 month old is trying to pull herself up!

My Neice who at the time was an only child walked by herself at 9months. Her little brother didn't start wobbling around until 13months.

It's very dependent the childs muscle and cognitive development

HI L.. I am a mother of 4 and my third child was walking at 9 1/2 months! My older two did not walk until they were almost 1 year old...

Both of my children (now 4 and 19 months started walking sometime in the 9th month. I have been told that it also has something to do with heredity. My husband started walking at 8 months, so I hear... :) So you aren't alone. It sure is odd to see a 9 month old (still a baby!!) up and walking around, isn't it?! :)

My first son was walking by himself at 8 months. I couldn't believe it. It seemed so early. My second son was walking at 10 months. I have nephews that didn't walk until later and I was a little jealous. LOL!! My sister-in-law didn't have to run around after them all the time.
