I'm pretty happy with my Kenmore canister vac from Sears. My biggest disappointment in almost all vacuums today is the fact that they are made of so much plastic. Things aren't made like they used to be. Anyway, it is not bagless but I couldn't find a bagless that met my requirements. I buy 4 bags at a time and they last a long time. It comes with a bare floor attachment, carpet attachment, brush, corner and upholstery attachment. I use it to vacuum the blinds, ceiling fans, hardwood floor, tile floor, carpet, upholstered chairs, etc. It's not extremely loud but I don't think I've ever seen a vacuum that was especially quiet. Because it's a canister and trails behind me, it's not that noisy (in my opinion).

I love my Miele! It isn't bagless, but easy to clean!

If you have animals that shed at all, I recommend you go with bagless. I invested in a Sebo (at the recommendation of vacuum shop). It was light weight and easy to use, but dog hair in the bag starts to stink horribly! The bags are expensive, so changing each time is not realistic. I finally traded it in for a Dyson animal. We love it. It picks up great and is easy to empty.

I have the dyson animal. it is bagless, works great and has 2 modes. one with the brush turning and one with the brush off. I use the brush off on my hardwood floors. I love watching everything it picks up and I dump the canister every other time I vaccum. I am amazed at how much it picks up. good luck

I have a Dyson and love it. Bagless, Hepa filter, works great on bare floors, but isn't quiet. I use to have a Hoover and it was incredibly heavy and would get ridiculously hot, but not so with the Dyson. No complaints and I've had it for 3 years.

We have a Rainbow vacuum cleaner and have pretty much loved it for over 8 years now. It uses water to do the filtering and there are no bags to buy. I would swear it helps my dust mite allergies. My allergy doctor doesn't like it but he based one comparison article which didn't do it justice. My opinion.

I am wondering if I should look into a Dyson. I look forward to other suggestions posted to your question.

I would check out http://www.allergybuyersclub.com/all-vacuum-cleaners.html -- there are miele, sebo, and electrolux models that run quiet. Miele seems to have a great reputation, but also a high cost.

I am still having trouble deciding on the same thing for my house! Looking at the prices though... a maid looks like a good alternative some days. I think even with filters, dust still gets in the air and my nose during vacuuming (because I have to reach under couches, etc.), and I still get kind of sick when I do it!

Right now I just use my little shop vac with a hepa filter in it and a rug/floor vacuum attachment. It is NOT the best solution, but cheap, effective, lightweight, and it has a huge bag that needs emptying only very infrequently. Plus I can use it for the workshop too! Good luck and if you don't mind, update when you have decided on something, because I'd like to know what you find is worth the expense!

I second the Dyson, I love it! It works on rugs and bare floors, is bagless and has a hepafilter. We have the one for pet hair and it works great. As far as quiet though, I really don't think there is any such thing as a quiet vacuum cleaner. It's not super loud but it's not real quiet. It's worth it though!

I love my Dyson. It's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever had. The advertisements say that it never loses suction. Well, that's not completely true. It isn't quite as powerful as it was when I first bought it. But, it's still more powerful and effective than any other vacuum cleaner I've had. It's important to keep the filter clean; that helps with the suction thing. I like the attachments, too. They're great for dusting.

Look into Dyson vacuums. They're Hepa and bagless..not sure about the bare floors and the quietness..still sounds like a vacuum ;)
