Ok ladies, I have had UTIs (Urinary Tract Infection) before. So I know the symptoms. My prob is I usually catch it in time and take the AZO pills. How long do I wait before I go to the doctor. I did some reading and the only cure is antibiotics. Is there anything else that I can do or not do, to make the pain subside? I couldn't get a doctor's appt until Friday. Please help! I don't want to make this any worse on my system.

What can I do next?

I have UTI's all the time. I have had 4 in the last year and couldn't get rid of this last one. I found a vitamin-type cranberry supplement at Walmart that I take daily. It has really seemed to help. It is called AZO- Cranberry. You might try that so that you don't have to go to the dr so often. They are so painful and make you feel so awful... maybe the pills will help you!

I feel your pain. I was on vacation last week in FL when one hit me. I always go prepared for the yeast beast but I don't have UTI's that often. However, often enough to know when I get one.

My Dr. called in a RX for me for pain and antibiotic. I took 2 doses and the symptoms were better but I had an allergic reaction to one or the other or both of the RX and almost ended up in ER. Upon arriving home and seeing my Dr., he told me I should have been in the ER that the sleep sensation with dizzy and heart beating quickly could easily have made me not wake up at all when I was trying to rest. I had taken this particular antibiotic before (Macrobid) and had no issues. It was Saturday before I began to feel normal again from my body's reaction to the drugs.

Try to get in asap and tell then you can't wait if you can't. They do a test in the office and they also send out a culture for further testing. I am going back in 2 weeks for a re-check to make sure all is clear.

I drink a lot of cranberry juice and eat proactive stuff daily. This one hit me by surprise. I am thinking of taking some of the azo cranberry as a preventative. I also find the other remedies on here from moms to be interesting to try.

Good luck!

If I were you, I would call the Dr. right back and tell the nurse or person who schedules appts. that, "you are in severe pain and that you don't think this can wait 1 more day" They should respond to that and fit you in today. If they insist they cannot etc... then suggest you drop by a urine sample so they can test it to determine whether it's a UTI or not. At that point, they would be able to call in some Antibiotics for you if it's positive. There is no reason you should have to wait until Friday to be seen.........especially for this. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

When I get one, I take apple cider vinegar, mixed with water. I do about 1tsp. vin./1/2 cup water. It's an amazing natural cleanser! Try this to help w/ the pain, and get to the doc. asap. for antibiotics. Make sure you are also drinking water and eating yogurt w/ probiotics. Hope you feel better!

If you're drinking cranberry juice, make sure it's made with real cranberries. I drank some with my last UTI, only to discover that it was mostly apple juice and artificial flavoring. If you have lots of pain, I'd see the doctor sooner than later. Kidney infections are not something to mess around with and that's what you'll end up with if you don't get treated soon.

I get UTI's a lot, and my doctor has told me in the past that antibiotics are the only way to treat it because it is an infection. You can PREVENT them by going to the bathroom regularly and drinking real cranberry juice, but once you get a UTI, it has to be treated with antibiotics. My doctor doesn't even make me come in for an appt...if I call and say I have a UTI, he writes me a prescription. You can't take AZO for more than 2 days because it's bad for your system (I think it affects your kidneys? Can't remember, but it's something like that). It's meant only to be used until you can start taking antibiotics. I feel your pain...I don't think anything makes you feel much worse than a UTI...thank goodness for AZO!

there's NO WAY i'd wait til friday, it could move up to your kidney's by then. drown yourself in real cranberry juice and LOTS of water, and insist on an appt today or go someplace like carenow. good luck!
