I would like to know if anyone has experienced negative side effects from a tubal ligation. I am contemplating the procedure after my c-section and am hearing that some people experience serious side effects while others don't. Any info would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I had my tubal when my youngest was about a year old. My periods have pretty much stayed the same, just heaver the first few days but it ends sooner. Cycle length is the same. Other than that, I've had no side affects. Good luck with what you decide!

Hi,

This is just my experience, and I am sure someone elses would be fine. I also had a tubal ligation after caesarean. My first issue is silly but, I don't know how old you are , but believe me there will come a time that you start thinking about how you will never have babies again. Also in relationships in my opinion, nothing is secure and what if god forbid something doesn't work out and your stuck not being able to have another child. Also, with my tubal, my periods became very extremely heavy, painful and watery. I know also have severe PMDD after years of no problems whatsoever. I had to go and get an IUD on top of it, which causes its own problems and now am thinking about ablation. I eventually had hormonal issues, and now I have a thyroid disorder. I really wish I researched on my own on the internet what happens after a tubal.

i had a tubal ligation after my second c-section and did not experience any serious side effects. the recovery is a little tougher because they do more and the surgery is a little longer. my period was different after but that could have been just from having a baby. i'm back to my usual cycle. everyone's body will respond differently but i think you should speak to your ob/gyn to discuss how he will actually do the procedure and any side effects that you might experience.

I dont think you have anything to worry about, I had a tubal ligation about 6 years ago and everything went fine. U will be sore for a bit maybe 2 days or so in that area but that should be all. i was able to go back to work after 4 days. hope this helps...

Everyone is different and there are no guarantees to this procedure as to how you will feel. This is a very personal decision and has to be yours alone. As for side effects, I have not experienced any and I had my tubes tied when I was 31 at the c-section of my daughter. That was 10 years ago.
Good luck.

When I had my third c-section the doctor kept asking me over and over if I wanted my tubes tied. I didn't feel right about it for personal reasons, but the midwives told me that most women who have their tubes tied end up having horrible periods after that. Well mine are already horrible so I definitely wasn't going to have that done. Everyone is different, but I was talking to several friends who had it done and they confirmed what the midwives told me. I asked for a hysterectomy after my last c-section and the doctor said it was too dangerous, so I ended up not having anything done. I have not regretted the decision, although I am very afraid that I could become pregnant again, and at this point I really don't want that.

It is a really tough decision either way, so I wish you all the best with it.

My daughter is 8 mos old and I've had no problems. I had it done when I had a section also. My periods just came back in Jan (I also breastfed which can delay your periods some). But no problems with cramping or bleeding.
