My husband and I haven't been careful for 6 months. We have been trying with the ovulation kit and basal temp. reading for 2 months. My period is in a week and I have dark brown spotting. Does this mean I am getting my period? Could it be implantaion bleeding?

What can I do next?

it could be, though i think it would be bright red. i just wanted to tell you, going by your cervical mucus may be much better than the temps or the pee sticks. it worked twice for us, beautifully :) it was very accurate and much less stressful than what you are doing, imo. hopefully you dont need the info, but if you do, you can check out toni weschlers book "taking charge of your fertility" ... just the part about cervical mucus. i think theres a website too. or you can just email me, ill explain, its simple. good luck!!!

A book I recommend to everyone is called "taking Charge of your Fertility" -- very straightforward, low-tech, and came highly recommended to me from another friend. It taught me a lot about my own body and cycle -- you might take a look and see if it has info for you!

Blessings!

Hi N., Take heart. It took my husband and I almost a year. A helpful hint re: ovulation kits, they tell you the time that you are close to ovulation but not the exact day. My obgyn told me the best chances to get pregnant are between day 10-15 of your cycle. It worked for us and today we have a beautiful 6 year old girl. A.

Hi N.,
Sounds like a good chance you are "impregnating" (implanting as you said), but there is the chance your hormones are a bit "off" in general and you might be getting your period. If you feel a heavy pressure feeling at your uterus, it really might be a pregnancy. If you do get your period, though, you might want to have some cranio-sacral therapy work done and/or acupuncture to help with your hormones. They are non-invasive, AND no side effects. Also, checking the cervical mucus for "eggwhite" texture will help you with the timing of intercourse to optimize your chances. A good book is "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"--don't recall the authors' names.
GOOD LUCK!

I know that trying to conceive can be very difficult and emotionally draining. I have a reproductive anomoly called uterus didelphus...I have 2 uteri! I am a freak of nature! LOL!

But on a lighter note, I can help make your conceiving expreience with your husband be more fun again...because I know it can be very stressful. You should try to have fun with sex again and let nature take it's course. I sell sensual oils, lotions, creams, lingerie, and adult toys. You can even have a passion party in the privacy of your own home...give me a buzz! Good luck and I will pray to the fertility Goddess for you! :)

Hi N.,

I wish you the best of luck in getting pregnant. You may very well already be pregnant, but unfortunately there is no real way of knowing until your first missed period. I am actually in the same boat as you. My husband and I have been trying to have a second child for about 8 months now. For me, the two week wait after ovulation makes me very crazy. I start obsessing about every little symptom that could be a sign of pregnancy (Breast tenderness, cramps, spotting). Of course each month I have different symptoms from the last so I convince myself that I must be pregnant. This month I am really trying to stop thinking so much about it and just relax and believe that it will happen when the time is right. Easier said than done though.
It might not hurt for you to get checked out by a fertility specialist just to be sure there are no medical issues keeping you from getting pregnant. Probably everything is fine, but it is better to find out early if you do need some help. I did find out that I have an issue affecting my fertility, so I am currently working with and RE in Fairfield. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you about my experience in case it helps.

I'm saying a little prayer that you are already pregnant.
Wish you all the best!
B.

Hi N.,
Unfortunately, it's impossible to tell really. You are either getting your period, or it could be implantation. Although, I think actual spotting from implantation is fairly rare. Usually it's just a tad bit of cramping. If you are tracking your temps, that can really help take the guess work out. If your temp drops and you start to spot, then your period is on it's way. 6 months is not too long to worry about. I'm not sure how old you are, but for women over 30, it takes an average of 6-8 months of deliberate intercourse to get pregnant, and most doctors don't even want to discuss it unless it's been a year. If it were me, I'd start tracking my temperatures, that way you can really see when you are ovulating and where your temps are. If you feel like something is wrong, go to your doc and check it out. I did. My cycles started to change dramatically, and get really short. I'd start spotting for a week before my period and spot for a while after. I went to see my doctor and turned out I had hormone issues, and needed some help. So, listen to your body and keep trying! :)

hi, i had implantation bleeding before my period was due & i was pregnant. also, if you are doing the basal body temp, do you see your temp elevated & not going down on the chart? if so, you could be pregnant. your temp stays elevated when you are pregnant & does not drop below the charted line. have patience & good luck to you!!! of & the author of the book taking charge of your fertility is Toni Weschler. great book!!!!!!!!!!! i used basal body temp & got pregnant right away!

Hi N.,
I am a fertility care practitioner I recommend looking into the Creighton Model system of Fertility Care. Go to www.Creightonmodel.com and find a practitioner close to you. I am in Norwalk, CT. This spotting could be implantation or it could be premenstrual spotting. The sooner you begin working with a practitioner, the sooner you will be pregnant!

Hello N.,

There's really no way to tell a week in advance of your period. Since you've been tracking your temp. you know what to look for - it will always stay above a certain low temp. and drop suddenly just before you get your period. If it rises close to the time when you would ordinarily get it, this means you are likely pregnant. My doctor told me to give it a year. If you do not have success in that time, perhaps you should consider having a few preliminary tests. I was off the pill for 2 1/2 years and when I was finally ready to get serious about it, I had some tests and found I had a cyst blocking my cervical opening. Once it was removed I got pregnant right away! All the best of luck to you. It's not always an easy process.

I have no idea of your age N. so this could be totally off course but I had horrible irregular periods most of my life. I have only had 2 pregnancies both much wanted and awaited after years of fertility issues. I now get that dark brown spotting before my period nearly every month...and it's related to perimenopause. This has been going on for a few years now.... I was originally told I was too young and my hormone levels did not show it, but then I had several other symptoms too (night sweats etc) and did some research and discovered that if they do not check your hormone levels several times in a cycle you may not know you are in permimenopause. By not knowing, or actually more accurately would be from getting told I was not, I ended up at cardiologists and internists in addition to GYNs for all the stupid things - mood swings, palpitations, sweats, irregular cycle, irregular everything... I did my homework when I could not get anywhere and found a perimenopause board when I googled something really odd that was happening. EVERY SINGLE symptom I had turned out to be on there. I have since started treating it like it was perimenopause (certain hebs etc) and I am much better...and when I do have those symptoms...I no longer fill with anxiety...I know they are from perimenopause. If it was up to me...I loved being pregnant. I would deal with the monthly for the rest of my life if it meant having more children or being free of all that perimenopause and menopause brings. If you are not in your mid30s-mid40s I would suggest seeing a reproductive endocinologist. Best of luck!

isn't the "2 week wait" horrible!! I look at every little symptom and get so excited if i feel nauseous lol!
it could very well be implantation - i think that usually happens around 7-10 days after ovulation. you said your temping and that will often show a temperature dip around the time of implantation too! but the unfortunate reality is that it could be your period too and there's no way to really tell. Supposedly pregnancy tests can be positive as early as 10 days after ovulation, but usually you get false negatives that early.
I know how frustrating it can be, even though it's true when people say it can easily take a healthy couple 6-12 months to conceive, it doesn't make the experience any easier every month! we've been trying for 17 months (due to medical reasons on my part - cancer, etc.) and we've been using fertility meds and IUIs the past few months with an RE (reproductive endocrinologist). But one of the things that helped me feel more in control and get to know my body more was www.fertilityfriend.com! it's a great resource and it charts your temp and OPK results so you can see the trend and visualize things more. and it teaches you other ways of monitoring your fertility too. It has a great online email course that taught me so much! I'd highly recommend it!
and another thing that helped me through the emotional part of trying to conceive was the TTC message boards at babyzone.com (www.babyzone.com/Community/Topics.asp?brd=395) ... its is such an active community and taught me so much as well as provide support. Don't get me wrong - mamasource is a GREAT website too, but i find babyzone has many more women who are in our situation and really understand and can give great advice!! So if for some reason your period shows up sometime soon, you may want to check babyzone out! hope that helps and feel free to message me if you want to chat about it!

Dear N.,
It sounds like you will be getting your period. If I recall corectly I didn't have the implantation bleeding until long after I missed my period. I know because it scared the heck out of me. I hope I'm wrong!!! Good luck and keep trying. It will happen just don't get discouraged and stressed.
