Transient Fever

My son is 9 years old and this happened to him at the beginning of the school year. Had a fever, then went away; next day, went up to 102; then went away. Got as high as 103 and he usually doesn't run high fevers. Had a headache and tiredness, some of the time, but no other symptoms. I just thought the headache was from the fever. No sniffling/cold symptoms. Did not even suspect the sinus infection diagnosis I got, three days later, with lots of fluid in his ears. My son has some environmental allergies but wasn't exhibiting those symptoms. Good luck. Hope this helps.

All three of my kids and I had this. Fever first, with no other symptoms. Then about 3 or 4 days later, they developed mild colds symptom, EXCEPT for the bad cough. The chest congestion was AWFUL! My kids fevers got up to 103+ at the worst of it, then the fever went away and THEN the cold started. It was some virus, as it went away, but we are still dealing with the remnants of that horrible cough a couple of weeks later. So, if this is a virus going around, it's possible that he has the same thing. Hopefully though, he doesn't have the same thing, because the chest thing was yucky! Good luck!

Earlier in the school year my 10 yr old got sent home with a fever, and she was tired. She had a fever for 4 days on and off... it got pretty high... almost 104, but she had no other illness symptoms. She was thirsty though, had the chills... nothing out of the ordinary fora fever. She had a low appetite too. Then one day she woke up totally fine, and to look at her, you wouldn't know she had been home from school for almost a full week.

I called the doc... he said treat the fever and let it run it's course. And for whatever reason... nobody else in the house got it.

I run fevers when I get worn out, not enough sleep and not eating well. My three old is like this too. Only we both eat, nothing can stop us :) Keep doing what you're doing, make sure he is getting enough sleep & fluids. If it happens again, call the doctor. Don't forget, in the evening body temperatures are higher.

I have studied alot on fevers and have come to this main conclusion:

A fever is a sign that the body is trying to fight something. I dont always know exactly what it is fighting, but my main goal is to help the body fight it. In my own family, we use natural remedies for helping the body fight the infection. This allows the immune systm to build so that it is better able to fight the next infection. My experience over the past nine years of parenting is that if you catch it right at the beginning, then you can fight it within 24-48 hours, without having to turn toward immune destroying options like antibiotics and/or daily medications.
Of course, they have their place, but I think it is very limited.

We are the kings of transient fevers. Our oldest daughter would get what we termed "mystery fevers" all the time when she was younger. High fever no other symptoms. At the same general time (but not at the same time as the fevers) she had tonsil issues--snoring mainly, no sore throats ever, no ears. Eventually, her tonsils were interrupting her sleep so much she had them removed....and guess what? No more mystery fevers. We never saw the outward symptoms of those fevers but the body was fighting some kind of germy in her tonsils or adnoids. My suggestion is not to freak out about a single fever here or there. Your son's body is fighting something and fever is the way it burns up those cooties. Don't be too concerned until there is a pattern of these transient "mystery" fevers.

My daughter does this quite often, but she is being tested for several things including Lyme disease, Lupus, Kawasaki Disease, Celiac's, low selium. There is also something called PFAFP I believe that can cause fevers w. no other symptoms.

He could also have been dehydrated maybe.
