Trampoline?

If you do get one, please make sure to keep up on the maintenance every year. My sister, 35 yrs old, just broke her back and almost became paralized jumping on a neighbors trampoline. It was an older trampoline and a couple of the springs over stretched causing my sister's feet to actually hit the ground when she came down and her vertebrate exploded on impact (she's not big either, only 130 lbs). I've always thought of getting one for my kids, but not anymore.

Just be careful. I have a friend whose little girl was sitting on the edge in the net opening getting ready to get out. Her 8 yr. old sister jumped and it knocked her out backward. She landed on her head. She was unconcience for 10 minutes, they thought she broke her neck. She came to when the ambulance arrived. She didn't break her neck but, did injure it very badly, also broke her collarbone. Oh ya, the dad saw it while in the house, he panicked and ran straight through the sliding glass door. He looked like a horror film. Blood everywhere, with lots of lacerations. They got rid of the trampoline. Just be careful if you decide to get one. God bless.

i dont see it as a bad idea but if your daughter has earrings dont forget to take out her earrings, a very good friend had a trampoline and their child ended up with 12 stitches in their ear from the earring getting caught on the safety net

Have you given any thought to a bounce around? My son got one for his second birthday and *loves* it. The guard net is attached, so there is no worry about him falling through (although I'm not as familiar with the trampoline, so maybe that's not a worry for that either?). Little Tikes makes several kinds and I'm sure some are within your price range. She could still bounce to her hearts content!

I have a trampoline for sale! Too bad you aren`t in our area! I read the insurance response below mine-My insurance didn`t go up at all-BUT, I do have a daycare and just got liability for the daycare and they will not let me have it on the property-even though the kids do NOT play on it. It is a blast and we will miss it!

My advice: Just don't buy one. The American Academy of Pediatrics reaffirmed its policy statement on May 1, 2006 stating: "The latest available data indicate that an estimated 83,400 trampoline-related injuries occurred in 1996 in the United States. This represents an annual rate 140% higher than was reported in 1990. Most injuries were sustained on home trampolines. In addition, 30% of trampoline-related injuries treated in an emergency department were fractures often resulting in hospitalization and surgery. These data support the American Academy of Pediatrics' reaffirmation of its recommendation that trampolines should never be used in the home environment, in routine physical education classes, or in outdoor playgrounds. Design and behavioral recommendations are made for the limited use of trampolines in supervised training programs."

My 9 year old niece just last week suffered a fracture of her tibia in the growth plate after her brother fell on her on a trampoline. She is in a full length leg cast and wheelchair for at least 6 weeks. What a way to start the summer.

My husband and I talk about getting my daughter a trampoline every year for her birthday since she was 2 as well. She is now 5. I end up talking myself out of buying it for her due to the injuries that can be caused. The trampolines I have looked usually are recommended for older children. I recently saw a smaller trampoline that Toys R Us is offering. It's My first trampoline with a closure for $99.99.

I know that lots of people have trampolines, but my concern is if your insurance company finds out, your home owners insurance could go way up. Trampolines are a huge liability. We have a couple in our neighborhood and our kids love to jump on them, but I swear everytime my 6 year old goes over, she comes home crying because she gets hurt. And what about other kids comming over to use yours? I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but I would make sure you think it through. I would say 2 is kind of young.

I LOVE trampolines and our son loves them too.. he's 28 months. My husband though is convinced they are dangerous. I had a piano student's dad break his leg from landing and falling off one. My sister has one and her 4 kids have never been injured.

Have you checked out the Rainbow Play Showroom www.kidsgottaplay.com They sell spring free trampolines that seem to be much safer. You can go and try them out anytime they are open. They also sell smaller to larger sizes so you can customize for your needs. I will say they are more expensive than what you want to pay, but if safety is an important factor I would check them out!

I am in the same boat. My daughter just had a gymnastics class and we were thinking of purchasing a trampoline as well. I spoke with a mom whose daughter recently broke her femur on a trampoline. She's a year older than my daughter who is 2 1/2. Her doctor told her that children under 8 shouldn't use a trampoline because their bones can't handle the impact. I never heard such a thing. My husband is a physician and he said that he thought that as long as the child is jumping by herself or someone else who is small the impact shouldn't be that great. My friend swears that her daughter wasn't jumping hard. Her knee locked.

I know that my 5 and 8 yr old get much more enjoyment from our tram than our 2 yr old does... He doesn't jump so much as run in circles. lol.

One of our friends who's a paramedic told us that most injuries on tramps are because the person lands wrong ON the tramp... Not so much from falling off...

Hello there...we purchased the 13' trampoline with enclosure from Sam's Club last summer for our 2yo and we are very happy with it. We have a 2yo little boy with tons and tons of energy and this was perfct for him to expel some of that energy! It was $300 for both the trampoline and enclosure and has been well worth the money. We did take it down in the fall to store in our basement which was our recommendation from other friends that owned them to keep it in good condition during the winter months.

Swingsets are TOXIC to the earth and your kids health. because of how the wood is treated . the metal ones are flimsy and sway and rust, and you have to paint them, and last 5 yers at Best. the tramploine is what we got instead. our girl is 4 1/2 now. we have had it 2 years. YES take it down every fall. it takes 2 adults about 2 hours to put up. keep the BOX!!!! also be sure to take a BIG Truck to pick it up. it made my Jeep Loredo sink to the ground when picking it up from Sams Club, it was about $350+ with everythign the net & tax.
sure your gonna have the potential for injury. where dont you tho?? way the risk?? Our Insurance did NOT Go UP, we have a sign posted that says "Jump At Your Own Risk!! Owner Not Held Responsible"
a broken arm?? or childhood cancer??? cancer is the leadign cause of death in kids under 6. so why give it more a chace to occur with toxic swng sets.
get the trampoline, keep only like sized kids at one time on it. take out ALLL Jewelery, your included when jumping! have FUn!! get the sprinkler out and put it under it! its a BLAST!! a clean slip n slide that MOM can doo too! WOW!
get big bouncy balls, and noodles,, the kids willnever wanna come in! and its NON Toxic for them !!

We have a Jump King, the kids love it. Rules, use a cage, no shoes, no toys, no belts on clothes, no hair pins, clips, no glasses, no more than 4 at a time, no kids jump together who do not weight aproximently the same weight. no fliping, no bending the rules. I let them use a ball, and sometimes we put the sprinkler under the trampoline, have fun, hope this helps, we bought ours at Sams Club, $350 4yr ago. Bree

M., trampolines are great fun for kids and gymnists, we had one, my dad was a trampoline artist, not enough can be said for parental guidance, we only allowed two kids to jump at a time, and they could not jump unattended, the netting around it is great, but it also makes the parent feel like they dont have to watch them, and im sure accidents have gone down alot with the netting attachments have been made, one thing about round trampolines is they are built for design to keep a person in the middle, so as a gymnist on the tramp and doing flips, she will not need to be on the side to flip, stay in the middle its not height is the speed of the spin, if she stands near the edge the edge is designed to push her back to center, so her flip will take up more space and land on other side of trampoline, so when flipping always stand in middle as with any other tricks , most people in the arts of trampolining usually have rectangle mats, so do tricks in the middle and you will stay in the middle, doing tricks near the edge to think you need legth to do a trick, is not the right thinking, if you need legnth for a trick do it on the floor on a mat, so work on staying in middle in flips and other tricks, just enjoy and have fun, if you need any other information on what kinds of things you can perform on tramp , let me know and i can email some to yah, have a great day D. s email me at; ____@____.com

Did you really mean inches or feet? If it is inches save your money buy a big one for outside. I wish someone would have told me that. I bought a small one made for indoors. It was 36" with a pole. She used it for only a year. It does go to 74lbs. She is now about 45lbs & really rocks it, however she only uses it about once a month. SOOO not worth the money we spent. $150.

DANGEROUS! Kids are injured every day on these. I would invest the money in gymnastics classes.

our daughter got her trapoline for her 3rd birthday, she too was in gymnastics from 14 months to 5 years. we now have a second daughter who is 2 and she loves to get up there and jump too. i don't remember the brand we got but we made sure we got one with a good net.
