Toyota Sienna DVD Gets HOT

Hi - We've had our Sienna for about a year and a half now. I noticed that the DVDs that come out of the player are very hot - almost too hot to touch! We've asked the dealer about this a couple of times, and each time he says it's normal. To me it doesn't seem normal, and I worry if there is a possibility of an electrical fire (it can only get that hot because the player is hot, is what I am thinking). Has anyone else experienced this - is it normal? If not, if the dealer won't do anything, what should I do? (I was thinking of writing directly to the manufacturer but wasn't sure if that would go anywhere.)

What can I do next?

I do not have this issue, but with other car issues I have found good information by googling something like "toyota sienna dvd complaints". I confirmed that I was not the only one having an issue with brakes on my vehicle, which was great information to have going in to the dealership.

Yep it's normal. Happens to my dvd's too. Just touch it on the edges. Don't waste your time running around trying to fix this.

My husband is an Electrical Engineer. If he was here now, I'd ask him. Ask someone at an electronics store and another dealership. If my husband gets home soon, I'll ask him and edit my post.

My portable one gets hot too. I just thought I bought something defective. I guess it's normal. :(

It is normal since it is a small player, just dont grab it as soon as it is ejected. Going to another dealer wont neccessarily get you a different outcome since all warranty related work is documented (even if it was just inspected) and all service history is now visible to all dealers. I worked at a Toyota dlr for 7 years as a manager. Not to worry!

P.S. I have experienced that dvd's will stop working, use a head cleaner CD before taking it in if this occurs.

I don't have a Toyota Sienna , or a car/van with a built in DVD player for that matter , but I do have a DVD player for the car that you attach to the head rests , and that also get's hot , so I think it is normal. Our GPS (again not built into the car) also get's hot when used for longer periods of time

We also have a sienna. Our DVDs come out very hot as well. I have never worried about it. I just figured they were so hot since the DVD player is so much smaller than most.
