I love to entertain, so I'm considering a Halloween party for my daughter and her little ECFE friends. They are very young, though -- between 12 and 18 mos. So really this would be more about getting the parents together to socialize (and providing them with another opportunity to dress their children up in cute little costumes). Has anyone been to a Halloween party for children this young? What did the kids do at the party? Am I being silly -- should I just wait a few more years for a Halloween party?
I think it is a great idea! Sounds like a lot of innocent fun for the kids, just playing in their costumes. While the parents chat. I bet there are a lot of parents out there that realize there is limited activities to do with children that young. And the interaction between babies/toddlers is great for their social skills and not to mention very entertaining for adults to watch. Go for it & have fun! :-)
I started hosting a Halloween party for my daughter and her friends (my friends and their kids) almost 4 years ago. I started when she was just 1 and now she is 4 (and has a 2 year old brother). It is a lot of fun - it is pretty much a big playdate w/ costumes on, photos, food, and of course treats.
We had a Halloween party last year for our mom's group. Most of the kids were around 12-18 months as well. It was lots of fun. It was more like a playgroup for them and was really more for the parents. So, why not! Have fun with it and enjoy your little ones.
As a mommy of 4 (6,4,4,& 4) and a daycare provider, I would suggest waiting until she is older (2+). Any age younger than 2 simply don't get anything out of the whole Halloween idea. I think it's more of us wanting that for them, instead of them actually wanting it or knowing anything about it.If you are wanting to just entertain, I would just have an adults only party. I would make it a Mommy and Me Halloween party. Sounds like you want to get together with the mom's. Maybe you end up forming a mom's group. I do daycare so I do a Cosume party for my kids of various ages. I have the kids come dressed up, and we do a pumpkin-themed craft (hard to do with a 15 month old though), have treats, watch a themed movie, maybe some games. You can decorate, but keep in mind it will mostly be kids playing and parents chatting and following babies around.
A woman at my church a few years back had a Halloween party at her house after trick or treating on Halloween. She invited a few families who all had children 4ish and under. My daughter was 2 at the time. Everyone brought a desert or treat that was Halloween themed and we had punch. The kids ran around and played and the parents chatted. It was very simple but everyone had a really great time. You could probaly have a few games but keep it simple and quick as 15mo. old's attention spans are pretty limited. I guess this was more like a playdate with costumes but I really enjoyed it as did my daughter.
