Hi Moms. We are starting the process of looking for a toddler bed for our son. We can't afford anything real expensive but don't want to buy something so cheap it will not last very long. Any ideas on where to get a good bed? I have heard IKEA has some nice beds, have any of you purchased a toddler bed from IKEA? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
We bought a simple wooden toddler bed from Walmart 3 1/2 years ago and it is still in great shape and child #2 is now using it. It was only $25-$50 and still looks great. Nothing fancy, but has worked in both a boy's and a girl's room.
Good luck,
A.

We bought our first daughter a bed from Walmart. It was just a plastic white one and lasted forever until we gave it away.. then they used it forever too.

I also suggest looking at some of the consignment stores, you will get a great discount that way. Craigslist is always helpful too.

I would just stick to a plastic type if you are worried about is breaking.

We ordered one from Walmart.com and had it shipped site to store (I did'nt like the ones they carried in the store). It looks great, and has held up well. I think it was between 50-75.

I haven't seen the IKEA ones, but we have a tv stand from there and it's nice.

You should try www.kidtokid.com or www.craigslist.com

Kid to Kid usually has some pretty good beds there.

IKEA does have some great beds (their website shows prices from $80 to $200)!! Once Upon a Child might have some toddler beds, too. Their website is www.ouac.com. Kid to Kid has already been mentioned. I would stay away from beds at Wal-Mart, though...Their furniture does tend to be "cheap", and typically does not last very long (personal experience). You might also want to go ahead and look for a regular twin bed, too, which would last even longer than a toddler bed, not to mention being easier to find sheet sets to fit that are more "big boy" than "baby". As long as you have rails up (and those are usually pretty inexpensive, too), your son should be fine in it.

Oh, don't forget to buy a *waterproof* mattress pad/liner to put underneath his sheets for night time accidents or sickness.

Good Luck with your Hunt!

I love pottery barn and they are not to expensive probably around $200.00 well worth the money. We have two of there cribs and changing tables. We have never had a problem with any of there furniture. In fact when I purchased my daughter crib I lost the parts to lower the mattress and they drove them out to me (dallas to ftw). Awesome customer service :). Our cribs can be converted to toddler beds by removing one rail and buying the kit. Did you check to see if yours does that it might save you some money.
