Throwing a Surprise 60'S Party for My MIL Turning 60. Any Ideas?

Midget stripper? LOL...sorry I couldn't resist! Maybe a flower power trivia game? Ask questions about famous people at the time or events...at the dollar store they used to have these cool long (like two feet) stemmed daisies maybe every correct answer would get one of these? maybe through in some questions about you MIL life where she was born, first dog's name stuff like that? Have fun I think it is nice of you to have a nice party for her and I'm sure she appreciates it. have fun!

That's really a great idea!! Keep it simple and to the point. A straightforward party is what most people like. Where is this venue taking place? If at home hire a caterer and server....so worth it you can mingle with the crowd. My DH had a milestone and that's what we did. Your theme sounds great. I would try to get some photos of her in her youth from that time period and post them around the "party room" have one of the pictures copied onto the cake.

Make a DVD with photos from her past and have a slide show play on the wall or a laptop.

Get a large picture frame with a mat that all the guests can sign. Take a picture of her at the party to put in the frame afterwards or get a group photo at the party to put in the frame.

I'm not getting the whole 60s theme! If she's a respected member of the community, then would she think this inappropriate for a public venue?
Especially with everybody dressing the part.....it seems more appropriate for a home-based party!

This response is coming from the fact that my Mom (& her friends/cousins) all have been adamant about not having milestone parties. We did a 40 party for her, & that was it.....at her request. She prefers a gathering of her closest of closest.....& that's it. She's okay with celebrating the event, but hates the gimmicks & hooplah (as she puts it). & the rest of the equation would be that she too is respected in her community.....having held office for years.

One more thought: while 60 is a milestone.....62 is a bigger one for that age group. That's when you can file for early social security.....

We've thrown theme parties...like when they turned 50 we all dressed 50's. You could do a 60's party. That would be fun and Orienatal trading has tons of 60's type stuff. Or do a them from the year she was born. Hope this helps. Good luck and God Bless.
