Does anyone know anything else that will comfort a teething baby besides Orajel? My almost four month old daughter has teeth coming in at the back and the front of her mouth.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The teething tablets worked great! I used those and then gave her a nice warm bath, and finally she looked content and she passed out. She slept a whole seven hours straight. Thank you so much everybody! We are going to go out and get the massaging teether next so she has something to keep her calm while she is playing.

Try basically anything cold, like popsicle(but dont open it just let her gum it, and a cold damp wash rag has seemed to work.

I found that putting a wet clean washcloth in the freezer until its "crunchy" frozen and then give it to my kids. It soothes the gums but doesn't mess anything up. But I also would give tylenol and motrin when the washcloth didn't work.

You can try Teething Tablets...they are all natural and can be found in the childrens medicine section of your local store. They worked like a charm for my daughter and my cousins daughters. Let me know if they help.

We used teething tablets, you can get them at most CVS or walgreens and probably walmart. They come in a small prescription size bottle, and I believe they are Dr. Hylans Teething Tablets. you can use as many as your child needs because they are all natural and do not contain medication, they did the job without having to use tylenol or orajel. The tablets dissolve almost immediately on their tongue so you don't have to worry about chocking. also we would wet several washclothes, and put them in the freezer, then we would let her chew on the washclothe, the cold helped her gums feel better and the cotton material was great for chewing on.

I used Humphrey's #4 on both of my children. It is available by special request at most pharmacies. It is totally herbal and can be used in combo with any other medication! It worked wonders, (and also helps with fusiness)! I also took a small bottle, filled it about 1/3 with water, put the nipple on it and turned it upside down in the freezer. It seemed to work, just watch that she isn't chewing through the silicone!

I second the vote for "Teething Tablets" made by Hyland's. It's homeopathic, natural and completely safe. And I don't know how we would have made it through my daughter's teething without them!! She would be screaming, and we'd put 2 or 3 in her mouth, and almost instantly she would stop. They last for a long time, too. Orajel NEVER worked for her.

I think that you just have to experiment with different things to determine what gives the best relief for the child. Orajel was the best for my daughter, while Motrin is the only thing that helps with my son.

I've heard of people who used Hyland's with great results, others have rubbed Benadryl on the baby's gums (it would be a tiny amount, if you think about it). I guess you need to figure out what you're comfortable with if you want to try either of these. Hyland's is homeopathic with no regulation by the government (although I think it is British in origin and they may regulate it over there). And, if you look at a Benadryl label, it will tell you to refer questions about using it on a child that young to your doctor.

Funny enough, my son wants nothing to do with those water filled teethers. He would rather teeth on something hard. In fact, he cut his first tooth on one of my daughter's wooden blocks!

Good luck and hang in there. It's so hard to see our little ones in pain.

You can get some toys that have liquid in them. Put them in the fridge (not freezer). THe coolness is soothing on the gums. My son loves them. Also, they make toys that have a rubber textured parts that are also great for chewing and helps relieve pain. I got a toy at Wal*Mart that is a star, when the baby bites it, it vibrates and massages the gums. My son LOVES this toy.

Teething is hard, my daughter just got her 1st set of molars. We use Infant Tylenol, or some will reccomend Infants Motrin (which they say is better for the swelling, but it depends on which works best for your baby)~of course talk to your Dr first. Also you can put a wet wash cloth in the freezer, I have heard. Once pretty frozen that can help sooth there gums when they chew on it. Also rubbing there gums can help to. Good luck!

Another idea to add, but a little messy is the push-up ice sticks. My son loves them!! They are small enough to put in their mouth, unlike a pop-cycle and it is drug free.

Or try putting some jello in the freezer and cut it into small pieces or strips, that might help too and won't get too hard.

None of my kids liked the teething rings either.

Good luck!

We have five and all loved teething rings from the fridge or their diced fruits chilled in the fridge for snack time. Something cold was constantly in their mouth and the motrin an hour before nap and bed to help ease while sleeping. Good Luck!

Motrin of course at the proper dosage and if she seems to be stuffy try some of the baby Vicks that you put on their chest and/or a humidifier. I was also able to give my baby Benadryl to help dry up runny nose or the stuffiness that comes with teething, however the Benadryl can make them drowsy or sleepy.

It was hard to administer Orajel to our son so luckily he was old enough to be able to suck on Pediapops which is Pedialyte frozen pops found in the baby isle of any grocery store. If your baby likes the taste of fruit you can get the mesh fruit holders which you can place frozen fruit in the mesh and allow them to chew on it or a very cold wash cloth for her to chew on.

I would wet a baby washcloth and fold it in half then roll it and freeze it. Morgan loved it and it was the only thing that calmed her sore gums.

My girls didn't teeth to bad but they used their pacifiers and I did the washcloth in the freezer thing and that worked pretty well and they didn't like orajel at all. It numbs their mouth, so they hated it. If they are old enough carrots out of the freezer works too, but make sure they are old enough because they tend to nibble off pieces of carrots. Teething rings were ok, but they didn't use them that much. Just the squishy ones. But they did use their bottles to nibble on and their pacifiers which is why I had to constantly buy new ones but as long as it helped I didn't care. My grandmother said put burbon on their gums, just a pinch but I couldn't imagine putting alchol on my child. But it was a old home remedy but I never did it. She also said it would help them sleep, well yeah I would think so. I don't think thats the best way but if you've tried everything else and want to try go ahead.

My mother used something called humphries teething pellets for me when I was a child, she swears by them and actually I think that they did well with my two boys. I spotted them at a local Walgreens, but you may be able to pick them up at any pharmacy. They are homeopathic little pellets that taste like powered sugar and will disolve in your childs mouth. Also I don't know if you have been trying the cold teething rings, but my kids liked that along with popsicles. I have included a link so that you can see what they look like...good luck.
