Just wondering if anyone has a pomeranian at home? If so, how is the dog with your children?

What can I do next?

Never had a pom, but smaller dogs tend to worse with young children than medium-sized or larger..... Scared of being stepped on, more nervous etc. I suggest looking at a more medium sized adult dog (puppies are much more mouthy) AND adopting through a rescue. While I love rescues anyway, here's a great part about them- you can foster animals before adopting them, so you can literally test-drive how well they fit into your life. You could even try a pom if there is one the rescue has found to be good with little ones! Good luck

I have a long-haired chihuahua (similar size as a teacup pomeranian). She is good natured, but hates being around children because they can fall on her, pick her up and drop her, are loud, run too close to her, etc. If you're looking at a rescue dog, you can ask if it is good with children. If you are thinking of buying one of these as a puppy... don't.

Not a great idea. They are small enough to be easily injured by rambunctious toddlers. And many are nervous enough to bite a child who does not yet know how to approach a dog. They may be fine with older children (10 or so and up).

I had one before I had my children. He died unexpectedly and crushed my heart. One thing I was thankful for was that he died before I had my children because the two would never have mixed well. He only wanted to be with me and would get snippy at others. I miss him dearly, but would have had to figure something out when the babes came.
