Well once my kids got to middle school, they could have up to 20 different teachers/staff members each a year (and there's three kids!)!

So this is what I started doing (and still do). I buy 9 $10 Dunkin' Donut gift cards. So each kids picks only 3 teachers to give a gift to. The KIDS fill out the cards, write something nice, include the gift card, and that's that!

I also have taken to sending personal 'thank you' emails towards the end of the year to teachers/staff members my kids talk a lot about or really like.

I write letters for the kids' teachers. It gives them something nice to put into their files. I also send a copy of the letter to the principal at the school. :-)
It's free - except for the time and the paper.
The teachers enjoy it.

I gave my daughter's Sunday school teachers as well as the woman who ran the church nursery $10 Barnes and Noble gift cards as a thank you. I also give Christmas gifts, uusally bath baskets.
Last year i was class M. and I collected money for a class gift to a teacher store I knew she frequented. I also asked each child to make a handprint and write what they liked about being in her class and then stuck them all into a plant witha message "THANKS FOR HELPING US GROW." this year I am getting a gift card to TGIFridays for her teacher. i plan on spending about $20

When my daughter was in midde school, I did not give teacher gifts. My son is a more difficult student and he had such amazing teachers this year, who brought about great improvements in his school work so I did give them Dunkin Donuts gift cards at Christmas. We are now a one income family as my husband lost his job and I can't afford anything generous for the end of the year, so I'm going to write them thank you notes and stick a few scratch off tickets inside.
