End of Year Teacher Gifts?

Do you give gifts to your children's teachers at the end of the year? We just got done with an "appreciation week" for our school where we gave the teachers all kinds of gift cards, and I'm feeling tapped out. I've always done end of year gifts before, but am now wondering if it's necessary. We have multiple teachers in the room, too, so it really gets expensive. I'd love to hear from any teachers out there re: what they think and what they appreciate. Would a very thoughtful note be enough? Or not? I'd love your input. Thanks!

Gifts are nice, but you've already done that and notes are really the best. I absolutely love getting them because they touch the heart.

I think you have done enough. I was a teacher for a few years and honestly a handwritten thank you note would be an amazing gift. I would write one and then have your child write one as well.

I can't imagine anyone not loving it!

As a high school teacher, we love to receive thank you notes / emails. Friends in the elementary schools have said notes are great, also gift cards- ie Dunkin Donuts.
I think where you have just had "appreciation week" you have said thank you. If you want to write another note, it would be appreciated but not necessary.
Have a good summer, and thank you for your thoughtfulness.

You have done enough.

Just write a nice sincere note about how you and your child enjoyed her teaching. That is what teachers really love and save.

I think if you do a thank you note. it's important to have the kids write it.. I ALWAYS make my son do his own thank yous. and when younger, we used to buy blank note cards and he would write would he could and then decorate with stickers.. people loved his "truthfulness" and sincerity. I let him write whatever came from his heart and family/friends loved the cards.. even teachers, I had one teacher tell me that while he loved the gift we gave him, the note that my son wrote really touched his heart.. he was so taken by it...

As a teacher, nothing means more than a genuine note or chat that says "Thank You." Gifts are always a treat, but gratitude feels so much better. :)
BTW- If you just did all the appreciation stuff, you have done more than a enough. I wouldn't expect anything more.

I taught for many years in different districts where the families varied greatly in their ability to pay for supplies, much less gifts. The most wonderful way to acknowledge an educator is a personal note of thanks. Share the reasons for your gratitude. How did s/he support your child's learning, social growth, etc? Educators spend countless hours of their own time that most people do not realize. Let these teachers know you appreciate ALL they do! The best thank you does not cost anything or take much time. If you really want to buy a last day of school gift, get a plant or flowers.

As a middle school teacher I can say unequivocally that it is nice to receive some recognition from your students and/or their parents. Our school year has finished and out of approximately 50 students, I only received one card, despite having repeated contact with some of the parents. It was disappointing. Just a card would be nice. Doesn't have to be a gift. People appreciate knowing they are appreciated, no matter the industry!

totally not doing end-of-year teacher gifts like i may have done in the past because we just did so much for teacher appreciation week, including compiling a book of hand-written cards/notes/pictures from the kids. so great to take that off my to-do list, no guilt, aaahhhhhh!!!

Notes from the child, written by the child or at least signed by the child are enough for the appreciation week. I felt the same way you did after the week of appreciation then have to buy end of year gifts, but I do it anyway, just my personality. You can have the class go in on a gift card tree and each family buys some gift cards then you can maybe only buy $5 GC per teacher. for appreciation week I tried to make things cheap"er" since I knew end of the year was coming and I tend to spend about $20 per teacher for end of the year. I made cookies one day, had my son write a note one day, gave $5 Starbucks gift card one day, and made her lunch one day. Then end of the year was more. Going in as a class makes it easier, you can even ask each family to chip in on one big gift card and then even if you put in only $5 at the end of year, they may end up with $50 from all.
