Ok is anybody else really freaked out about this swine flu and their kids? I really want to keep my kids out of public places would I be crazy too? (church, stores etc.) I live in WYCO and the news said that they have a case here now with a 2 year old child. Others opinions with this please!

What can I do next?

I was a little freaked out yesterday...my daughter needed a "pirate-ish" older looking shirt for her school play today, so we went to the Goodwill store in Shawnee. While we were there I noticed a man wearing a mask, like the ones people in Mexico and other places are wearing to protect themselves, he did look hispanic. It scared me a little bit because it made me wonder why was he wearing it? Had he been in contact with someone or what?
My 3 yr old son was not with us in the store, but later on that evening he started with a fever and threw up. It's probably just a 24hr bug, I'm sure the two are not related, because fevers don't start w/in an hr of exposure. I don't want to offend anyone if they shop thrift stores, but I didn't want to pay a lot for a "pirate shirt" that was only going to be worn 1x by my daughter. I actually found her a nicer shirt than she needed plus a man's dress shirt for my husband for only $2.50!

nah. I go in and out of Home daycares everyday and I make sure i use hand sanitizer as soon as I get in my car. when I get home I wash with soap and water. At the grocery store I take a wipe and clean off the handle. I have taught my kids to cough in their elbows. I believe that if we all can take the same measures, it won't spread. And if you do start to feel icky go to the doctor, AND DON'T GO TO WORK OR send your kids to daycare. Good luck on your business venture.

NO I am not freaked out, in fact, I think very little about it. You would be silly to stop your life because of this. Basically, this is the media's new "hot" topic that they love to repeat over and over and scare us all. Be knowledgable of the symptoms so you can react quickly with a doctor's care if needed, and most important, teach your child proper hygenic habits and get on with your life. Of course, I wouldn't plan a trip to Mexico right now, but that is just common sense.

I just look at it as the hot new topic to talk about. It's the flu just a different strain. It's unfortunate that some have lost their lives to this but the "regular" flu does the same. This isn't some incurable strain, I'm sure the symptoms aren't pleasant but the average person with a healthy immune system will recover.

I haven't changed what I do from day to day. We always wash our hands, wipe down the grocery carts at the store, wash our hands before eating, etc.

You need to practice good handwashing with you and your babies. I am freaked as well, but get into the habit of using waterless hand sanitizer constantly if you are in public places. I just returned from Southern California, and my employer made me have a nasal swab to rule out H1N1 AKA Swine flu prior to returnig to work. I am clear, but was losing sleep wondering if I was going to get sick 48 hours after my return. Your best defense, wash wash wash!!

The government actually issued a statement yesterday saying that it does not appear to be as terrible as they first anticipated, but they aren't saying it couldn't become worse. Whatever that means. Here's a link to an interesting article. Not sure I necessarily agree with everything in it, but it gives another side of the story to help combat the panic in all of us now. http://www.voteronpaul.com/newsDetail.php?Critical-Alert-...
