Summer Things to Do and Places to Eat in DFW

We have family visiting from out of town this summer since we just had our second baby and we are looking for suggestions of things to do. We would prefer activities that are inside b/c the heat is just oppressive, especially with a newborn! We love the Arboretum and have a membership but I feel like it's too hot for that right now. We also have a membership to the Fort Worth Science Museum.
We are also looking for good, local places to go out to eat. We live in Lantana/Argyle and are willing to drive a little ways if it's worth it! Grapevine, Roanoke, Southlake, Lewisville, etc. are all a good distance!
Thanks for your help!

The new aquarium at the grapevine mills mall is supposed to open July 15th I think. Grapevine Mills Mall also has the Rainforest Cafe restuarant plus a mini train inside the mall that the kids can ride.
Oh and I think Grapevine Mills Mall also has the legoland.

you have some good answers already. I would look into the dallas aquarium. I have heard that it is amazing. maybe also the Dallas Children's museum of natural science and history. If they are an older crowd, There are plenty of museums in dallas and fort worth. Also some really great places to eat in roanoke (i live 2 miles away) Babe's (!!!!), Cowboy chow, and twisted root ( for the best burgers EVER!) You could also go to places in southlake town center. They have a lot of amazing food and grapevine mills is a good way to pass the time. All the chain restaurants are in grapevine as well.

You don't really mention the ages of "family" - whether it includes toddlers, school age kids, or teens. That would make a difference, but here are a few ideas:

Summerfest at Gaylord Texan is fun, and if you don't buy anything there, your only cost is parking: http://familyeguide.com/SummerFest-Gaylord-Texan.html

Bass Pro is kind of fun to walk around. They have weekly fish feeding and fishing, plus periodic activities for kids:

Take advantage of the early and late hours to get outside for a walk to the park, visit to the duck pond, etc.

In terms of eating out, here are some local family deals (kids eat free, etc.): http://familyeguide.com/Kids-Eat-Free-Deals.html

Visit the Family eGuide Calendar for more date-specific events as well: http://familyeguide.com/user_vcalendar/week.php?id=3&sid=

Good luck!
