Sudden Vomiting

This sounds like a strange question but it's never happened to me before. I suddenly vomited for no reason at all. My first thought is pregnancy but I am on birth control pills and take them on a regular basis. Has anyone ever gotten pregnant while taking the pill (and not missing a pill)?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I wanted to tell everyone I took a test and yes I am pregnant! It doesn't feel real yet because obviously I wasn't expecting it and I hope that taking the pill didn't do any harm to the baby. I also drank a couple glasses of wine at New Years. Ahhh here comes the guilt already :) I'm very excited and I wanted to thank you for all of the responses!

Hi,
My sister-in-law got pregnant while on the pill ~ she took hers religously. She was on antibiotics, which counteract the pill & oops! Baby #4 was on the way!

A friend of mine got pregnant twice while on the pill. The first time she was taking an antibiotic, and this time she was sick and then got pregnant. I guess she threw up her birth control. Hope this helps and you feel better soon.

I sometimes throw up when my period starts. This didn't start until I was in my late 30's. It now happens off and on. It can be caused by pressure changes also or food allergies.

I did get pregnant while on the pill. I took it religously to the point that I was in total denial of being pregnant. I had all the signs and still didn't think I was pregnant! It is only 99% effective, when taken on a perfectly regular basis. Nothing is 100% effective.
Good luck. I hope it turns out the way you want.

The only 100% sure method of birth control is abstinance. It is possible to get pregnantwhile on the pill, but rare, unless you've also been on an antibiotic. Get an inexpensive pregnancy test - some dollar stores sell them for a buck. If is positive, go to the Dr. and get it checked out. Is it possible that you just ate something? Good luck!

I just scrolled down to read the other responses and see that congratulations are in order. Responding to these a few days late is always risky. : ) May God bless you and the new baby you are carrying.

Have you taken any other meds lately? Yes, you can get pregnant while on the pill. All 3 of mine are living proof. I had been on a prescription with the first one, but the 2nd and 3rd, I don't think I was. I switched to the Mirena IUD after #3.

Are you queezy at all? Sudden vomiting without queezyness might be acid reflux. Do you have a sudden urge to vomit when you bend over? Otherwise don't wait to long and if it continues be persistent in getting a doctors help. I was pregnant last year and sick all the time. My doctor and I both thought the sickness was morning sickness. I lost the baby and two days later was still sick. I saw another doctor who dismissed it as being stomach flu. It turned out to be an intestinal blockage which nearly killed me. If you feel something is not right call the doctor and get it checked out, please.

Taking a test can never hurt. If you are not late though, or close to when you are supposed to start, the test may not yet show positive. With my 4th pregnancy, I was not late so I took the test that shows up a few days before a missed period and it showed negative. Then I took it again when I closer to when I should start and it was positive! We had our little girl in November of 2007. I NEVER missed a pill and ALWAYS took it at the same time. After my daughter's birth, we skipped taking the pill since it didn't work last time and relied on condoms. We are now pregnant with our 5th. Nothing but abstinence is 100% and that is just not fun!

Sure, TONS of women get pregnant while on the pill or using other contraceptives. But it could be lots of other things too. Take a test, if it's not pregnancy and you don't feel better in 24 hours, call a doc.

I'm probably one of the worlds most faithful pill users- I don't miss, take them at the same time everyday, no antibiotics.. and well my little pill baby will be 1 in two days. They aren't 100% - take a test to put your mind at ease.

You can always take a HPT but maybe you just ate something bad that didn't agree with you.

I got pregnant on the pill, but you might be jumping to conclusions. Alot of things can cause vomiting. Do you have other symptoms? If you feel like you could be preggo take a test.

Yes.
I don't know that you need to look at this as the reason but it wouldn't hurt to take a home test.
Sometimes something you ate, combined with nerves, stress, etc., can cause this reaction as well.

My son came through 3 forms of birth control! I wouldn't completely rule it out, but you could just have also caught the flu or eaten something funny earlier in the day that you didn't agree with!

This may be a shot in the wind, but you may have acid reflux and not realize it. My son would get an achy stomach and throw up without having a chance to get to the bathroom, usually in the morning just after breakfast. When I started making him eat more protein at breakfast, the problem cleared up. I didn't even consider that this could be the culprit until a friend told me it happened to her and when she went to the doctor it was diagnosed as acid reflux. You can get pregnant on the pill, but this is another possibility. Good luck figuring it out.
