Stuffy Nose - Wichita Falls, TX

My twins have had a stuffy nose for a few days now. They are 3 months old. I suction them every feed (every 4 hours) and it never seems to help. I called the pedi and he said unless it affects thier sleeping or eating then not to worry. I run a cool mist humidifer at night. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Have you tried putting a few drops of nasal saline to moistne their little nasal passages? Sometimes that will help you get the dried up stuff out.

The best thing ever is lots and lots of saline and suction only if you see something. You want to moisten everything real good so it just slides or oozes. I do it every time it sounds like my 3 month old is really dry or really blowing alot of air through his nose.

Saline nose drops are what we recommend our patients. Put one or two drops in, then wait a few minutes and suction. Even if you are not getting anything out on the syringe does not mean you have not washed the mucous down their throat. They either spit it up, or poop it out. Try that. They don't usually like it at first, but it helps. Try Baby Ayr, or any baby saline drops from the store. Hope this helps!

They have vicks made for babies but the best thing I got when my son was about the same age was a triminic fan.it is a little battery powered fan that you put these little strips in and run it eight hours at a time.it work wonder full.best of all it is for kids so is doesnt have medicated vapors but just vapors that will open up their sinuses.i got min at CVS.i love it and use it every time he is sick.It will feel the whole room quickly even though it is small.I used the cherry strips.

My son did too which was accompanied by constant ear infections. Have they had any ear infections? The saline mist w/ suction was a life saver to us. I got many responses that he may be allergic to, well, everything. I wasn't keen on removing everything from fabric to milk from his environment. However, we did get tubes in his ears at 6 months which cleared the stuffy nonses, EVERYTHING up. Good luck!

Steam from hot water, I would put my daughter in the bathroom once it was all steamed up. Also, saline in the nose (I used little noses).

I would try elevating them in their bed. We've done that for our kids and it really helps. Use the saline drops for kids and the humidifer even during the day and night. It will get better, I know it is rough.

Are you using saline drops before you suction them? The saline will loosen up the gunk and make it easier to suction out.

Before you suction, try saline mist. You can buy it at the drug store and it really helps to loosen the mucus. Since it is just saline, I'm assuming it is safe for infants as well as older babies.
