I totally disagree with the Chi. It's a wonderful product, but not for THICK wavy hair.

You should get a Babylis Pro Nano Titanium. They DO cost a little more, but they come with a 4 year warranty. Even if YOU break it, they will replace it. I know this bc I have done it :)

It has titanium plates, not ceramic. It's amazing.

I would also like to add that this product goes to 450 degrees which is needed for thick hair.

I just got a Keratin treatment done by my hairdresser. My hair is so thick and very curly--hard to manage. Let's just say this Keratin treatment is awesome! I can go 3-4 days or more without having to wash my hair! :) It is perfectly straight and thin (not heavy). I love it. I will get this done again when the treatment needs to be updated. I only had to pay $100 for it! My hair is soft, silky, and perfect. I don't even have to use a flat iron on it everyday! I wash my hair, blow dry it and then use a flat iron on it. I don't wash my hair for a few days. Altogether between blow drying and the flat iron it takes less than 45 mins!!!!! It use to take me 2hrs+ just to do all of this. My hair has never looked so healthy before! Give it a try! :) You'll spend less money in the long run!

I love my Chi. Yes, I have had problems with them quitting. But I have shoulder length, thick, curly hair, so it takes a lot to get it really straight. The one I bought at JC Penney's I paid about $120 a few years ago and it lasted a couple of years. I have bought a couple off the internet and paid around $60 and they've lasted around a year. But after spending tons of money on buying cheaper ones at Wal-mart, I feel that for my hair, the Chi works best. I do know that a lot of people like the ones that you can get at Sally's Beauty Supply. Their brand that is like the Chi.

I have has my Chi for about 15 years and it still works. My hair dresser bought it for me so it may be different than the ones in stores. I don't use it very often anymore--I have given in to the curls. :(

I bet you get a lot of answers for the CHI - I had one and it did work great however less than a year after getting it the on/off switch didn't work anymore - same thing happened to my sisters. So, if you do get one of those I wanted to forewarn you. Now I have a Revlon wet to straight. I have thick hair and it works for me.

My daughter is mixed and has very thick and curly hair as well. I bought a Chi for her a couple of years ago and it works great. We also got an instyler, which does okay, but does not get close enough to her scalp, so it kind of defeats the purpose.

I bought a CHI last December (about $100) and searched Online. Target and Ulta both carried the one I wanted. Ended up going with Target because I got free shipping and $20 Target giftcard.

It works great and I have longish curly hair.

I assume you mean a tool and not a chemical. I don't think you need to spend a lot of money to get one that works. I have super think, super curly hair. I have found that a ceramic plated, 1" diameter works best. I use a smaller one and do smaller sections of my hair at a time. It takes longer, but worth it.I don't feel like the bigger wands grab my hair as well. I don't remember what brand mine is, but I think I paid $40 at Target several years ago and it is still going strong. I use it at least twice a week. Good luck!

I have very thick, course, curly and long hair. On the rare occasion that I would straighten my hair, it would take at least a good hour and a half to blow dry and straighten it. Earlier this year I did lots of research and read lots of reviews on a straightener that would work best on my hair. I ended up purchasing the Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium 1-1/4 from Folica.com.
Even with the straightener on it's medium setting, I can blow dry and straighten my hair in about 30 minutes! I am so amazed at the results and wish I would have known about this years ago.
I think it retails from about $140-150, but sometimes that website runs specials and you can get it for a little cheaper. I've also seen it sold at Ulta stores.
Hope this helps and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Everyone will say "Chi" but here's my take (and I have very wavy hair!)

It's not so much the brand, but the width of the blades...thinner ones (1") will allow you to get right down close to your scalp-and that's the secret to straightened hair that looks natural.

My husband bought me a Chi and I trotted it right back & got O. for a third of the price. 6 years later...still no issues and works great.

Brand is not important. Save your money!

I have think wavy hair too. I got a Chi about 2 years ago & it works awesome. I also just tried the Suave at home Keratin treatment this past weekend and I am hooked. It stunk but it worked awesome. Have someone help you & when they say a well ventilated area, they mean it! It smells like a perm but works awesome!
Good luck!

If you are willing to drop some cash go for a CHI. I have thick curly (spiral curls) hair and use a Remmington $30 (wet or dry) straightener, but I do not do it often enough, to invest. If I really want the pin straight I have my stylist do it for me - she does it the best!

My hair is straight due to my Native American heritage. My daughter's hair is mostly straight too, however, she LOVES her Chi.

Also, last October I had a Chi Enviro treatment on my hair and I loved it. It was so smooth and sleek. I paid about $200 for the treatment and the producs to use afterwards.

Well, I have been shopping for a straighter myself. I have really been wanting a CHI but wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money. After reading the comments here there is no way I will be getting a CHI if they have a problem with quitting every year. I have been using a Revlon that I bought 8 years ago for about $30. It does okay and most importantly it has worked for EIGHT YEARS. I am looking to replace it because the ceramic coating on the plates is wearing off. But I want something else that will last another eight years. This is not something I want to spend over $100 on every year.

I bought a Royale last year and love it! My hair is sooo frizzy and it make it look wonderful, way better then my Chi or Croc ever did. They are about 3x the cost of a Chi but way worth it.
