Stopping Depo Prevera

My husband and I have decided to discontinue birth control methods in order to conceive our second child. I was due to get another depo prevera injection on June 21st but did not. I menstrated from June 29th through July 5th. During this time I had extreme stomach aches, diarrhea and nausea. The symptoms went away when the menstration also did. On July 10th I started menstrating again and the stomach ache, diarrhea and nausea returned. As far as I am aware these are not normal symptoms that occur with menstration. Has anyone else had symptoms like this after stoppong depo prevera? Obviously my menstral cycle is not regulated, how long will that take to become regular? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

What can I do next?

Contact your ob/gyn and ask. I am not sure about it, but it could be your cycle getting back on track. Good luck with trying for a baby :)

I was on depo for almost 6 years when I decided to stop taking it. I started getting a menstrual cycle three months after I stopped. This included heavy bleeding and a lot of pain to where I had to go to the ER. The doctors there said it was my system and hormones getting used to being off the shot. So i'm assuming it's normal, just as is anything else would be. Basically withdrawls. About 6 months after I was off it started to become normal with bleeding and no pain but my cycle was more like 21 days instead of the normal 28. Hopefully this helped!

I was on depo for over 3 yrs, i forgot to get my shot(it was at christmas time and i was working 3 jobs!), i called the clinic they said my chances of getting pregnant were slim to none and to come back in when I started my period. I never started my period cause I got pregnant right away! So based on my experience this isnt normal! However, I have known alot of other people that used Depo for different lengths of time and they all had different side effects! I would maybe call your Dr just to reassure yourself! Good luck!

i was on depo for 3 years, then had my second daughter, then was on it for 5 years. i was due for the injection around christmas, and i didn't get my period back til may. that was really light and din't bother me. but the next three were pretty harsh, same symptoms as you're describing, upset stomach, diarrhea and nausea. it was pretty bad. it felt like i had the flu and a truck ran over me. i've never had periods like that before. it lasted for the first three or four cycles, then i was ok. mine did come regular, like every 28 days though. i believe it just was a surge in the estrogen coming back. it will even out, mine did about a year later for sure, and now i just have occasional cramps. any otehr questions, don't hesitate to email me!
