My 10 month old is ready for the next step...Cant seem to get him to take a sippy cup - he just bites at it - I think he thinks he is supposed to eat it!
Also, how do we start meats? Cook something and put it in the blender (I dont cook!) I have seen baby food, but didnt look too appealing - I am also trying to do all organic
Thanks moms!

What can I do next?

I started a sippy cup about a month ago, for awhile my baby just played with it a little. I would try to tip it up for her to drink and she would cry. She would however drink straight from a cup. So I started to take the top off the sippy and let her drink, I think she finally realized there was something good in the cup and started drinking out of the sippy top. It did take her awhile, I think, just like with everything it takes practice.

My 10 month old actually prefers to drink from a straw. It took a few times to remind him that something will come out of it (put your finger over the top to get a little in the straw, and then put it in his mouth.) He will also drink from the Nuby sippy cups, but he prefers a straw for sure. As far as meat, he eats finely shredded chicken, and has even had some ground beef (SMALL pieces) but I have never really blended food, or cared for the baby food meats either. I just figure they dont need meat until they can eat it like we do (only smaller obviously) He loves boiled chicken with rice and cream of mushroom, or other things that are similar. Good luck during this fun time of discovery!

My 8 month old was not kean on the sippy either; therefore, I offered her a cup with a straw. I hold the straw between my index finger and thumb about a half inch to inch from the top; this way she doesn't put too much of the straw in her mouth and gag or poke the roof of her mouth. Be sure to put on a bib because if your son takes too big of a drink a large portion of the juice will come right back out.

I have begun grinding food for my daughter with a manual grinder made by KidCo that I bought several years ago from Babies R Us. This week I experimented with a piece of turkey lunch meat, strawberries, banana, etc. It is easy to clean and not a big production to use. You can even take it with you to restaurants.

There are some meats for baby food but they are pretty thick also they have turkey sticks as well in the baby isle.

I did most of my cooking and but it in the blender and he really loved it, I still do when he's having an off day.

Good Luck, I know being a single mom to an newborn/infant can be a challenge.

My baby loved the jar baby food broccoli/chicken and turkey/sweetpotato. I can't remember the brand but I always found it at Kroger and Walmart. You have to look really close for it. The broccoli/chicken smells but she really did love it. My friend said the same thing about her twins.
We use the Nuby sippy cups with a straw in the 8oz size. The 12oz is to big to hold in the highchair. I have only found them at Babies r Us and Target. Good Luck!!!

S.,

My son loves the Nuby sippy cups, they are $1.76 each at Wal-Mart and they come in many colors. We haven't made it to the meats yet so I can't help you with that as my son is only 7 months old.

Good Luck
