I have an active 4 year old son and would like to put him in some type of sport. But not sure if there are any available for his age group. I know that most require your child to be atleast 5, but I would like to atleast get a head start and just know where to go and enroll once he turns 5. Which by the way will be in early summer. I live in the Apopka area.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I know a great karate school that is in Sweetwater. The instructor is very patient (has a 3 year old himself). He teaches them how to chanel their energy, disapline, and respect. My 14 year old is a black belt and has been there for over 3 years now. I love watching the little ones break their boards, the look on their little faces is great.

Cal Sun State Martial Arts at ###-###-#### They are right behind Sabal Walk Elem.

You can sign him up for soccer and/or t-ball and some machine pitch teams accept children at 4 as well. Try Altamonte Sports, if they don't have anything available in his age group they should be able to direct you. My 10yr. old played soccer at 3yrs. and t-ball at 4yrs., it was very cute and he loved it, well, the soccer not so much, but when he was done, he would just lay in the middle of the field. Have fun!!

I have two boys, 3 1/2 and 5 years old. They enjoy Gymnastics, We tried Tae kwen do, karata type, and I know the YMCA offers all kind of activities( good deal for the price, you get 2 hours a day of daycare so they can play with other kids)

Hi J.,

I live in the Apopka area too. I know that soccer starts at three around here. I'd check at the Fran Carlton Center to see when things start up and also if you get the Treasure Chest, it usually has advertisements for stuff like that.

Good luck!

For sure Soccer and Basketball can start at 3 at the YMCA. You don't have to be a member to enroll him either. You just pay like $10 more than members do. But if you are going to play several or want to work out or swim I'd join and be done with it.
All 3 of my kids have started out playing for the YMCA in baseball, soccer, basketball, karate. Then they've gone on to compete in area leagues.
It's great to get them active early especially boys, they have so much energy and at this age they are eager to learn new things.
Have fun.
