I have a 6 month baby and she has been spitting up since she was born. She has reflux and she is now on a medicine called zantac for it. I want to change her to prilosec I heard it's better. They also found out my baby is allergic to milk protein (ask the doctor to find out). They switch her to a milk called Nutramigen (it's made by enfamil). She also had a thick white film on her tounge, gums and cheeks when she was little like your baby. It was called thrush. That hurts the baby. They gave her medicine for that. Make sure to ask them to check again because that also has something to do with the baby's feedings.

My baby had the exact same problem. After her feedings she would spit up and SCREAM. Her tongue was white from the formula. I decided to put her on soy formula. I used Isomil. After about a week she was fine. I just used the Playtex nurser bottles, they kept her from getting too much air mixed with her formula.

I know babies' tongues sometimes can get a white film...the same was happening with my son when he was about 2 months, but it got worse and worse. He wound up having thrush. Just keep an eye on it. If the film gets thick, make sure you have a doctor look at it. or if you start to see it on the insides of teh cheeks or back of the throat.

Your baby could have Reflex(kinda like hartburn but it can make them spit up alot) my son had it really bad and the dr would not put him on meds unless he was droping weight. but you can try

Bruping aver every oz of formula and make srue she burps real good after eating

keep her upright for eating and after eating

use slow flow nipples

try Dr. Browns bottles

and talk to her dr about putting her on reflex meds

Is your baby dirtying diapers like she should be? one or more poopy diapers a day and 6 or more wet ones? is she getting backed up or going way to much? if she is having a problem with her fromula she may need to switch to soy or lactos free formula

keep a colse eye on the wihite tounge it could just be from the formula but it could also be TRUSH if it is trush make sure your a really clean everything that goes into her mouth with very very very hot even boiling water, also watch out for a diaper rash that is all bumpy and other with spots in the mouth. trush can be painful so if she starts not eating like she should make sure for her do see a dr right away

***EDIT*** also about spit up if you baby is spitting up a dinner plate sized amout then that is only 1 oz. of formula

Hi. I have a 5 almost 6 month old. My daughter had the white film on the tongue too. No concern there unless you see it anywhere else besides on the tongue. I was concerned about spitting up too but my peditrican told me unless it's projectile vomiting there is no need to worry. As long as she is gaining weight the dr is usually not concerned. I must have asked my doctor a thousand times at every visit about her spitting and they were not at all concern and she is now an almost 6 month old who weighes about 17 lbs.

First, Trust your DR. If you find that you question what he/she says, ask more questions. Make them explain things better. Sometimes, a Doc needs to be reminded that you are new at this, and some changes cause you concern. If you find the doc isn't good at communicating with you, find a new Dr.

Second - my baby spit up too - though she hadn't in the beginning. My doc, whom I think is terrific, said as long as her weight gain was OK, and she didn't seem upset by it, or seem in any real distress, not to worry. I breast fed until a couple of weeks ago -she's now 13 mos - and she's doing great.

Enjoy her. She will grow and change faster than you can imagine!

Unfortunately spitting up is just a normal thing for a baby. If she seems like she is getting more gassy along with the spitting up, it could be something like reflux but it sounds like you are ok. I have heard a few people say they had success with the nestle good start formula with "comfort proteins". My son had to go on soy so I couldn't try it but they said it seemed to be a lot easier for their kids to digest and reduced the spit up.
