Should I Call My Pediatrician or Am I Being a Nervous 1St Time Mama?

To use the nasal suction device you need to wrap her in a towel or blanket where her arms and legs are confined then hold her head still. You need to learn that if you don't get the snot out it sits in her sinuses and festers, creating puss and green mucus.

The snot has to get out of her head somehow so it drains into her tummy. She can't digest it so it comes out her hiney in her diaper. Yuck...Otherwise it comes out the nose and drains or it comes out the ears and causes an ear infection.

It has to get out, the how is up to you in a way. If you hold her down and suction the snot out she will get better sooner but if you just can't help her that way then the doc can put her on some antibiotics to fight the infection she'll develop.

I would take her in . Better safe than sorry! When my baby got like that I had her sleep in her swing. The one we had reclined a bit (I think most do) so she wasn't' sitting completely upright, but she wasn't lying flat either.

Colds in babies are scary and frustrating, but she doesn't sound in any danger. You might want to ask your pediatrician about ways to help her -- a cold mist vaporizer and a baby vicks rub or plug in diffuser can really help. I think keeping her home from the sitter is absolutely appropriate, especially since you don't want her spreading germs or picking up new ones. But everything you describe sounds like a run-of-the-mill, miserable infant cold.

For me, any baby under a year old with fever should visit the doctor. Better safe than sorry.

I'm sorry she's sick!! I know how hard it is when your baby is sick and you aren't sure what to do!! Call the pediatrician..that's what they are there for...

Is she still having WET diapers? Not just "leaky poop's" but WET diapers? If she is NOT having wet diapers - I would call the pediatrician NOW. That's a sign of dehydration (NOT trying to scare you...just telling you what my pediatrician told us...) diarrhea happens and can dehydrate you...so if she's not having wet diapers I would be concerned!!

Uggg those sicknesses are the hardest to figure out what to do. Especially after a few "It's a virus, drink, sleep etc" visits, where you feel you wasted your money. They only thing a doc can do now, is diagnose a treatable sickness e.g., strep throat, ear infection etc. If you don't think it's something that requires treatment, then don't call the doc. Otherwise, go in and have the doc look in her ears and give her a throat culture.

What does YOUR momma think? I'd go with your mom's instinct as well as yours. BuT--
Calling the doc's office and explaining the symptoms will make you feel better, and they can decide whether you should take her in or not.

Have her sleep elevated so the mucus doesn’t go into her chest. If she is really stuffy sit in the bathroom with the shower going with just hot water and let the steam break up her congestion. 100.2 is very low for an infant and as long as she is still eating her regular meals (breastmilk or formula) and going pee then she shouldn’t be dehydrated. Also keep using the suction even if she screams, you need to clear out the mucus often and that will help keep her from spitting it up.

This depends on how old your daughter is. I think though, if it makes you feel better call the doctor. At least one of you will be better! Most plans have an advice nurse hotline or an on call doctor available to talk with. Hope your little one is better soon. P.S. If your daughter is really little (3 months or less--call now).

Doctors are there to help you!! If you are concerned, always call the doctor. Think about it, the worst they will say, is that she doesn't need to come in!!

When my son was four months, I definitely would have called. They deal with lots of paranoid parents. Trust me, you're not one of them!!

it could be teething. One of my granddaughters had a sinus infection with every new tooth. UUUGGGGGG it was a LONG year or so until she got all her teeth in.

Oh, pediatricians are used to first-time mamas! They like having their brains picked. Go ahead and call. The temp isn't very high, but if Emma is starting to teethe or something like that, she can have symptoms as if she were getting sick. Or she could really be ill. With a baby so young, you don't want to take a chance. For your own peace of mind, at least, go ahead and call the folks at the doctor's office.

She is 4 months old? Yes. Call the doctor. Better to be on the safe side---don't worry you are not bothering them!!! Good luck and hope your baby feels better soon.

had the same symptoms with our daughter, turned out to be a virus, take the tot in to the doctor, lots of blueberries( helps them kick the ickies), keep them comfortable and well hydrated and they should be ok in a few days, then wash everything the tot slept on or with to keep them from getting the same thing all over again

1) I preface (and prefaced) a LOT of calls to the doctor with "This is probably just a paranoid mom moment..." Each time, they've always been thrilled. It's parents convinced their sniffles need to be airlifted to the nearest trauma center, or magically fixed, that drive them up the wall. So, when in doubt, ring them up.

2) From what you're describing, I wouldn't have called yet, but would have just done what you're doing (except that I have access to infant meds being up here by Canada).

I say call. who cares if you are a nervous new mom! That's what they are there for, right?!?! The last time i thought I was being stupid for taking my son in, he had pneumonia. And that is my second child! You never know what might be going on, it is getting close to RSV season.

Call the doctor. She is still pretty young, but in time you will get a feel for what can wait and what is urgent enough for a visit.

I would call the Dr. very first thing in the morning since she is so young and it has been going on for several days.

Sorry she is feeling bad. I would call the DR first thing in the morning. There is probably not a lot you or they can do, but getting a professional opinion in the morning will a) make sure nothing serious is wrong and b) make you feel better! Good luck
