Does anyone know of any decent homeless shelters in Northern Illinois? My friend has nowhere to go and she has a four year old child.

have her contact a church- they often have PADS at churches where people are served a meal and sleep the night- the churches rotate- it is nearing the warmer weather and they do stop over the summer months but I am sure they can give some direction. Good Luck and God bless!
You may try asking/have her ask at the health dept. They could probably set her up with a women's/children's shelter that would be safer than a "typical" shelter. They may also give her items she needs like food, etc through WIC or other programs.
1. Call her local village hall, township and/or police station and ask for referrals.
2. If her homeless situation is any way connected to a domestic violence situation, check into area domestic violence agencies.
3. Call a hospital in the desired area that she would like to stay in and ask to speak with a social worker (ideally a pediatic and/or women's services social worker) who could provide some referrals.
