My son is 2 1/2. He has had between 3 and 5 episodes of diahrrea each day for the last 4 weeks. He has no fever, eats, drinks, plays well. His stool has been tested, and came back clean: no bacteria or infection. He has been allergic to milk and eggs for about a year, and we took him off of all soy milk and dairy products last week. He has basically been on the BRAT diet for 3 weeks. His pedi wants to send him to a GI doctor to figure out what is wrong. Have any of you experienced this, and what kind of testing did they do? Please do not tell me horror stories about terrible diseases he may have or anything, trust me those have already gone through my mind. My question is not how to get rid of the diahrrea, but what to expect at the doctor next week.

Thanks to all of you who gave me advice and encouragement. We went to the dr yesterday. She did more bloodwork and another stool sample. We will know the results in about a week. She is hopefull, however, that since he was on antibiotics twice in the last few months that his good/bad bacteria have gotten out of whack. She put him on a probiotic (good bacteria), and we will go back in six weeks.

We were referred to a Pedi GI - won't bother you with details..... - we saw Dr. An in Plano (awesome) We did a colonoscopy & endoscopy. Not on first visit!! Usually, with GI problems that they haven't figured out, these are the two tests they will want to run. Good luck!!!!

It is so weird that you are experiencing the same thing that I did with my son a little over a year ago. My son is allergic to milk and eggs also. He started having TERRIBLE diahrrea and then came the vomiting. He would vomit every day - sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. We got him into to see Dr. Ogunmola at Cook's Childrens and he is the BEST gastroenterologist. For our son, he held off on doing an endoscopy and treated him with Prevacid for 3 months. He stopped vomiting and started having normal stools. My son LOVES Dr. Ogunmola and we have had such good experiences. My son is still allergic to milk and eggs but we do give him soy products without any vomiting or diahrrea. There is light at the end of the tunnel...I promise. It was the best money that I have ever spent. Your son will be fine and I am sure that they will get it fixed for you as they did for us! We will keep you in our prayers. I know how difficult it is. Hi G.! The first visit of course they'll just talk to you and find out history and symptoms. The first tests they'll want to run are the colonoscopy and endoscopy. He will do just awesome, no pain, it's a sinch. I had an endoscopy myself and had no problems. I know it's scary but it's better to know. Please keep us updated. I'll be praying.
