Hello!
My daughter just turned 9 months and is very interested in feeding herself!
Anybody have any luck finding plates with suction cups that will stay put?
I've heard mixed reviews on the BabyBjorn brand.......

Thanks!

Instead of the suction, I recommend starting out with a paper plate and then transitioning to plastic. I use the Pottery Barn Kids plates for my little one and did with my older son as well. I used the paper until he seemed to be leaving it on the table a little more consistently and now when he decides to pick it up, we take it away and say no. Learning table manners begins now, as they say...it's good times! :)

Good luck.

I have one that works okay, don't know the brand. But in the end, its all about just putting food in the tray.

i think it's the gerber brand that has some that stay put.

We use the Boon bowl that has a great suction cup and a catch lip. We bought it at Babies R Us and it goes everywhere with us. I keep one at home and one in his bag for use in restaurants. Check it out at: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=323714...

I'd say better to teach your child manners than to get a suction plate. It worked best that way for us and now our daughter is great at the table and never tries to push her plate.

I say skip the plate and just put it right on her tray, it will end up there one way or another anyway. Let her explore the food and the textures that way. 9 months is young, let her learn through "playing" to a degree. The manners and correct way will come soon enough. Start with small portions and if you can't put the highchair on a non-carpeted area, surround the floor around it with towels! Enjoy, it is going to get messy!!!!

I never found any that would stay down for very long, although I gave up searching before I tried Bjorn. I just found myself using whatever worked for the food at hand and its...attainability level, I guess you'd say. :)
Often, food directly on the tray was best, but paper plates as well as those melamine kids bowls got the most use in my house. Good luck in your search. I will be checking back to see what others have found to work best. =)

Hi M.,
I would put the food directly on the tray. Save your energy on looking for a suction plate. Your baby is too young to understand the concept of keeping food on her plate.

Good luck!

Skip the plate, just put the food directly on her high chair tray. She can throw more food on the floor if you put it on a plate!

It is mainly made for parents to feed a baby purees, but it would also work really well for cheerios and small pieces of pretty much any food your baby is eating. She could reach in and get it easily, but you don't have to worry about spills!
