Highchair to Booster Chair?

When is a good age to move kiddos from the highchair to a booster chair at the family table? One of my sons has started to scream when he gets in his highchair and has learned to pop off the tray (which he thinks is hillarious!!!). Is 13 months too young? I also like the idea of having them at the dinner table with us. I appreciate any thoughts :)

What can I do next?

My daughter is 14 months, she has a fisher price booster. Here's a link: http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2001&e=detail&....

We found ours at Babies R Us, Toys R Us also has it.

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this seat! By far the best baby purchase we've made (and it was only $25!!!). We use it at home, take it to restaurants and other people's houses. You can use it with the tray as a highchair or without the tray. The seat has straps on the sides and bottom that secure it to the chair, then there are also straps that go around your child's waste & between their legs. The white tray is removable and dishwasher safe. It also has a lid to go over the trays to keep them clean for travel. I can't say enough about this seat, I rave about it to everyone. Every time we go out with it someone asks about it. It's fantastic! :)

If you use it without the tray and just have him at the table, I'd invest in some of those bowls/plates with suction cups on the bottom, or be prepared to have dishes picked up, thrown or dropped. It might take some time for him to get used to it, but I don't think it's too early. Sometimes we go without the tray, we just have to keep a close eye on her.

I have three children and my 14 month old has gone to a booster chair at the table. She loves it because she closer to the family. She does put food in her chair, on the floor and plates go to the floor when she is done eating. Not to mention the fun game of pick the food off the plate and put it on the table. But with time and constant correction of it one day she stop! My oldest now 5 1/2 yrs old never really sat in a high chair. We used the booster with the attachable tray (that my daughter is now using). And just stopped using the tray when he was a little over a year also and we did the same thing with my middle girl. (no high chair). But you need to do what you are comfortable with.
Good luck

I think you should use a booster seat because I think are tall enough to reach the table. It would be better to go with a booster seat so the child will not remove tray from the top of the highchair.

Our guy was about the same age as yours when we started having trouble with his high chair. Mind you he has two older siblings and so desperatly wanted to be like them. We tried booster seats, but he was determined to sit in a regular chair. So we gave in and he ate dinner standing on his chair, yes he fell a couple times, but was always ok.
I had an older version of the fisher price seat listed below and it was a great seat, could be used on the chair or on the floor. I remember when my oldest was little we had movie night and would sometimes eat in the living room, we would just put his chair on the floor and all was well!
Good luck!

We use the high chair still (son's 2 now) but we have him pushed up to the table in it, without the tray- just using the table. He doesn't have to be strapped in because there's a "horn" to keep him from skootching off, and he's pressed up to the table.

We also found a travel booster that collapses like one of those camping chairs (Wal-Mart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4457082) - also seems to work well and because he sinks in to the canvas we still don't have to strap him in. We've used it occasionally since he was 18 months.

Because we can best position him for a healthy height from the table in his high chair it's been better than a booster - he's had more success feeding himself because the table and food are at a comfortable height to him.

Hope this helps!

i think as long as they can sit up well on their own, and be safely strapped in to the booster...it's fine! we love our booster that has a Y strap, and a tray, so she can sit up and use the table, and we still have the tray option which makes it just as handy as a high chair. it's the fisher price healthy care booster.

My son was about 14-15 mths and he actually never went to a booster chair he hated being strapped in his highchair (babee tenda) so we just let him kneel or stand on the kitchen chair while he ate with us.
