I'm looking for a swimming pool that has minimal chlorine and is warm enough for my 8-1/2 month old son and I. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I see that you live in Oakland....try the Downtown Berkeley YMCA. They have 3 pools one of which is always heated to about 90 degrees. It's 3-3.5 ft. deep. If you aren't a member, you can become a program member to take your son swimming. They have a class called Tiny Waves, or something like that, just for babies & parents. They also have Family Swim times throughout the week. We've been members there for years. Our older son, now 7rs, started swim lessons there at 3 yrs & is now a fantastic swimmer. Our 2.5 yr old will start lessons this summer but has been swimming in the warm pool since about 7 months. I'm not sure what the chlorine levels are but due to the heat of the pool, you can smell it. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a public pool w/minimal chlorine as they want to keep it germ-free. We started our younger son in that pool at about 7 months after I talked to our ped about it & she assured me that as long as you shower them off after swimming, they'll be fine. He's had no chlorine-related reactions & LOVES to swim! Hope this helps & good luck!

Happy New Year R.!

I am a member of the YMCA in downtown Oakland. My 11yr. old son swims in that pool all the time, and I have too on ocassion. It didn't seem to have much chlorine. But you can always ask them what the chlorine level is.

Good Luck!

The Dowtown Oakland Y is a great suggestion and they have mommy and me classes as well. The pool is heate to about 80 degrees - it's not "arm", but it's worked well for my son (who's 10 now) through the years and it's close.
