Seeking Structured Preschool for 4 Year Old Strong Willed Boy

Does anyone know of a good preschool with plenty of structure and good academics for my four year old son. We have a 4 month old baby in the house and he has been trying to get my attention any way he can. My husband is a weekend dad because we works out of town during the week. I think my son is resenting the time I spend with the baby. I think if I send him to a preschool he can find his niche. I need to prepare him for the structure of kindergarten. I sent him to a 2 day a week program at a local church but there was too much free time, too much tv and it was more like a daycare. I would prefer a Christian based preschool. We are in the River Oaks area. HELP!!

What can I do next?

Hi,

I am not sure where River Oaks is located but if you can get to central Arlington, Fielder Road Baptist Church Early Childhood Program is excellent. They are very structured and wonderful. The cost is great as well.

My daughter went there from 28 months through Kindergarden. She learned so much. I was really impressed with the quality of the program and the staff.

River Oaks isn't too far from Saginaw. I sent my son to Saginaw Playschool run by the city rec center. Same situation. He was 4 and I had a 6 month old (and I was a former teacher :). He needed something but I didn't want to shock him with a full day preschool being that he had always been home with me. It is still twice a week but very good. It's also only 2 1/2 hours each day but they learn so much and there is no down time. Teachers are wonderful and the same two ladies have been doing it for years. Also great on the budget...$70 a month. you do not have to be a resident of saginaw to attend. You'll be surprised how great that little structure time can do for him.

It's not Christian, but they do pledge allegiance in the big kid classes and they say grace before snacks...Kinderplatz of Fine Arts, just south of Vickery on Hulen Street. There might be an opening, usually have to go on a wait list, but they have 2 more summer sessions that he might get into. My kids have been there for over 2 years and they love it. The focus is that with Art, Music, drama/reading, and Science kids will want to learn. The (4) different aged classes rotate between 4 rooms that focus on these arts. They have 2-day, 3-day and full week programs. I love it too. Here is the website:

Hi, C.. I am not sure where River Oaks is but I teach at a Christian mothers day out in Grand Prairie called TLC. I teach in one of two PreK classes and we are very structured. We have a schedule with very little downtime. Chapel and Sign language are the first thing our class does. We then go to acedemics - wall work and calendar. We have craft time, story time, Bible verse time, etc. Each day is devoted to themes. Our teachers dress up to whatever theme we are having and then decorate our rooms so the kiddos can have "visuals". The kids are also encouraged to dress to the theme of the day. An example would be "harold and the purple crayon", everything is decorated in purple, we may dress up as a purple crayon, Harold, or wear everything purple, and then in experiencing the book, we do activities such as mixing colors with shaving creme together to get the color purple, the kids can write their names in purple sand, etc. We also have time for centers and playground. I have been there for 10 years and my partner for 11. Our shcol is having their 25th birthday and it is the same two directors who started our program.

Good luck in finding a prek that will meet your needs.

If you're willing to drive to sw Fort Worth, Southcliff Baptist Church is AWESOME. I have a strong willed 5 y/o that just graduated from there after 2 yrs. They're inexpensive compared to other "prep" schools, the teachers are wonderful, and he'll learn a ton. My daughter could already read beginner books and do basic addition before she graduated. She will be ahead of her class for kinder. When we were looking into private schools, we were told by several people, at several different schools, that they specifically want Southcliff kids.
We have 2 other kids that will be attending Southcliff when they get older as well.
Feel free to send me an email or something if you have any questions. :) Good luck!

My son goes to Covenant Christian Academy, and we love it. It would probably be too far for you, but you might check into Temple Christian off 820 and Randol Mill. I think there is also a good one called Glenview something or other.
I second that about Fielder Road Baptist! We are not going there only because we moved to Bedford.

primrose is good. they actually have to wear uniforms during the school year. summer they don't and its a little less structured. but during the school year they have an actual schedule they go by with different subjects to learn.
