Hello,
I am looking for a preschool for my 4 year old. I am so confused! How do I know he is ready? Do I take him somewere to be evaluated or do they go on age alone? Tried to talk to my friends about were they took there little ones, but most of them went to a church program. I'm not against this completely, but we are not very religous. Do public schools offer preschool? Are there any in North Peoria? Any preschools for that matter, whether is public, private or church sponsered? I would be open to any suggestions for researching this. Don't know why this is so challenging for me. Just feel like I don't know anything about getting him into a school. Thanks, K.

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your advice. I did finally find a highschool(Sandra Day) near my house that offers a really nice program. My son is going to pre-school 5 days a week for 2.5 hours and loves evey minute. If I could afford full day I think he would love to stay with his teachers and friends.

Hi K., Both of my boys started preschool at age three. It has been the most wonderful confidence booster for them, they love the independence and so do I! It is only three hours a day three days a week. We are not at all religious and they go to a congregational church preschool in Phoenix. The religious aspect has never bothered me at all. It rarely comes up, and, if it does, my boys don't seem confused by it. I also think that knowing a little about different religious beliefs is kind of like a history lesson and they are bound to learn about it at some point anyway. I think 4 is a great age to start preschool - it will give your child a huge edge in Kindergarten! Good luck.

you can also check into some of the high schools. I know the high school I attended (Apollo High School in Glendale) had preschool program. I taught in the preschool and all of the kids really enjoyed it. there are regular teachers in the room but also high school students who prepare and teach them lesson plans (its for college credits) and before they are allowed to work with the kids they have to complete a child development and family living class. I graduated 5 years ago and still miss working in C.O.O.P. and I miss all the kids. I now have a 15 month old of my own and I know when she is old enough I plan on entering her in the program!

I recommend the Peoria School Dist Community Preschool program.
My kids have attended this program since they were 3. If you are wondering if he is ready, I will tell you that this environemnt prepares them for kindergarden. I have taught in kindergarden classes and seen the difference between kids who have attended prek and those who have not. The community preschool is a great introduction to meeting friends, sharing with others, center time, etc. The classes have one teacher and one assistant all of the time. They only go for 3 hours a day 5 days a week. You can call me for more information at ###-###-#### or you can contact the preschool office direct at ###-###-####. They might be closed for the summer, I am not sure but I would be happy to share my experience with you.
