Seeking Playgroup near Brookfield/LaGrange

I know I already asked this once, but I am desperate now. I am looking for a mom/moms with kids probably between 10 - 15 months in the Brookfield/LaGrange area to get together with to the park or zoo or anything. I'd really like to get my son to be more social (12 months tomorrow!!).

On my last post people suggested Meetup.com but all the groups on there require you to like try-out before you're accepted into the group. All of the try-outs for the next month were when I was at work or when my husband would just be getting home from work. I guess I just want to meet a mom or 2 that works during the week, like me, and would want to get together on the weekends to take the kids out instead of keeping them in the house so we can catch up on our cleaning. :) I want a friendship... I don't want to have to pay monthly dues.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow! Thank you all for your responses!!! As one mom said, I know that socializing isn't necessary at his age, but he sure wants to. Whenever he sees my friend's 8 month old baby he squeels with excitement and lunges at him, just trying to touch his face or his hand or anything. The 8-month-old is too young though (to duck out of the way when my son is coming at his eyes OR to play back). Obviously playing with other babies is something exciting for my son and I feel like I've been holding him back.

I WILL EMAIL EVERYONE THAT HAS POSTED THUS FAR... HOWEVER AFTER A FEW EMAILS I HAVE DECIDED TO START MY OWN "MEET-UP" ON MAMASOURCE. IF YOU LIVE IN THE BROOKFIELD/LAGRANGE/NORTH RIVERSIDE AREA AND ARE INTERESTED IN A PLAYGROUP PLEASE SEND ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IN A PERSONAL MESSAGE. I WILL START A MAILING LIST SO WE CAN ALL MEET UP AND GET TOGETHER AND GET OUR KIDS TOGETHER.

I have a nine month old little boy, and live in LaGrange Park. The LaGrange Park Park District has great classes for moms and little ones. There is a class titled Best Friends which involves singing songs and such which is great. You can find their fall catalong online and can register online as well. My sister met a lot of area moms and tots through that class.

Although my little guy is only 9 months old (he is very social though!), I too am a working mom who would like more socialization. We belong to the zoo and are fans of the park.:)

If you are social, and it seems like you are, just start talking w/ other moms with children around your child's age when you are aat the park and stuff. You might also check at the LaGrange or LaGrange Park Districts to see if they have any socialization classes that work w/ your schedule for you and your kids. We live in Chicago (near Mid-way) and they have a mom & tots class I would go to when my kids were younger. We all made some friends this way and playgroups were started.
Good luck. I know it is difficult. Also note, that socialization is usually not necessary for kids until they are 2 and older. Right now, kids don't really play w/ each other. But I know how nice it is to have other moms to do things w/, espcially for that 'adult' converstion and advice.

I would recommend trying meetup.com again. The "try-outs" are usually just informal get togethers so some current members can make sure the person who wants to join isn't a nut-job or dirty old man, etc. I used to organize a group & we did this. Usually, they were held at night & a few new members went so no one was singled out. You could request for the organizer to organize a try-out meetup (or whatever she calls it) when you're available. If she's like me, she'd be very accommodating & understanding of your schedule since you work. Once you join, you can see the member list & find other members who work outside of the home, contact them via the meetup site, and see if they're interested in a 1-1 meeting sometime at a coffee shop or mall or something. I did this w/ 2 different moms when I first joined a meetup group, and I'm still friends w/ one of the ladies almost 2 yrs. later. This is the only way I know of easily meeting other moms in the area. Good luck!

Hi I'm B. and I have a 3 1/2 Renee she loves to play and I have a friend with a 18 month old. I have another on due in March. My sister has 4 kids and one due in Feb. they range from 10 months to 8 years. I love having people over to play with Renee and everyone. I live across the street from Kiwana's Park in Brookfield and have a swing set and little pool at my home. We try to socialize at least once a month with our friends, family and my sister is over all the time. It's not much but whatever if you want to talk, sure.

Hi R. - I have a 3 1/2 year old, so quite a bit older, though am open to meeting with you. I too just moved to the area, work full-time and want to meet other moms, and feel the same frustration in trying to build a network. I joined the zoo and found the children's area has something fun for kids of all ages, which might be a good place to start. Let me know!

You'll find the more "down-to-earth" people in Brookfield than LaGrange. Check ut the preschools and ask if you can hang a notice saying what you're looking for on the bulliton board for the mommies. Even the teachers migh know of which moms want the same thing. Good luck. By the way, I was raised in Riverside so I know what the Brookfield/LaGrange folk are like. My very closest friends still live in Brookfield and we went all through school together.

Hi... I'm S.. I have an 8 month old daughter, Brooke. I'm 34 and I've been married 6 years this Sept. We live in Willow Springs and Brooke is watched by a lady in LaGrange Park. I work full time also during the week. I would be interested in any kind of Mom's group. I feel like the majority of ones I've seen cater to Mom's who stay home. Please add me to the e-mail list...

Hey there,

I too am a full-time working mom. My son is actually only five months old, but I would love to meet some other working moms in LaGrange/Brookfield. I also checked out some of the meetup groups and noticed that they were geared toward stay at home moms. While my son is pretty young in comparison to the other moms who responded, it would still be nice to meet other moms regardless of childrens ages. Maybe those of you w/ older kids could even give me a few pointers ;)

A friend of mine posted a flier in a local coffee shop announcing the formation of a playgroup. I along with 3 or 4 mommies joined initially and now the group is up to 11 people and we are all good friends almost 4 years later. Make a cute eyecatching flier and post it where you know other mommies hang out (coffee shops, parks, toy stores, kids clothes stores, etc.). You can just post your email address rather than your phone number...
