Hi moms-

I'm looking at American Academy of Gymnastics in Palatine for my 5 yo son, and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with them-good or bad. My son has been in gymnastics for 2 years already and shows some talent.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
I noticed that you live in Mt. Prospect. Have you ever been to International Gymnastics in Mt. Prospect? My daughter attended a party there recently and it's clean and big. There are kids in my neighborhood who continue to take classes there. I am really considering it for my daughter.

I don't know anything about the gym in Palatine. I know you specifically asked about that gym.... so sorry if my suggestion is not what you're looking for.

I hope this helps. J.

my kids are older now but the 4 of them had good experiences there. My daughter was on a competitive cheerleading team and they worked out there. All in all it was a positive experience for all of them

I started my daughter at AAG at 18months in a mommy and me class and she is almost 9 and still goes there. My son who is almost 7 has also been going since he was 4. They like it and have never asked to stop going however, it is not the cleanest gym I have seen. It is a little dated. The schedule for the boys program is pretty limited. I've heard that there is a newer gym in Mt. Prospect but have not checked it out. I have never inquired about the competing part at AAG even though my daughter is pretty good. As with any gym, you'll find that some instructors are better than others. Good Luck!

if you are looking to just take some classes they are fine. Reasonably priced and teachers but if you feel you son has talent and your goal is to compete you should seek out a gym with a boys team that has a good reputation. AAG had it's hayday and Now they like to do casual classes and birthday parties. I know this because my daughter wasted 3 years there and only competed once.
