I will be relocating to Cobb County and I will need to enroll my 7 yr old twins into school. My son has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS and my daughter was also, but has since been de-classified. Coming from Rochester, NY the public school District provided many resources at no-cost to parents and I am interested in learning what if any resources are provided and if not what are some alternatives. Please Help!!!!

What can I do next?

K.,
I am originally from Rochester also---Irondequoit. The schools are great up there. I just recently moved to Marietta (sept). I have a 7 year old boy that I have been trying to get help for also. Since we moved to Marietta the school has been great. They have a psychologist, social worker and a team of people helping to figure out what is wrong with my son. He has always been diagnosed ADHD but I knew something else was wrong. Through there help we have been able to start to get him diagnosed as PDD and they will be doing a full screening on him free through the school. My son goes to Mtn View Elementary.

Let me know if I can be of any help,
W.

I don't know about "extra" resources, but Cobb County provides IEP and Special Education curriculum and educational resources for any child diagnosed with any type of learning disability or exception. Of course you would personally have to check out the particular schools that serve the area you plan to move, but generally Cobb County has really good schools.

I am not familiar with Cobb Co., but Gwinnett and Paulding, but I don't think it matters it is the state. My son has had an IEP for ADHD and Bipolar since he was 6, he is now 16. We started out in Fl, then La and now Ga, everytime we moved they went with the previous IEP until they could determine his eligibility. My advice would be to bring all previous paperwork for both children to the new school and tell them that it needs to be followed. Fortunatley in my experience I think if you are assertive they seem to follw your lead.I know its not much but I hope it helps!!!!
